"This ends now!" Janeway about the alien experiments.


Lieutenant Torres is crawling through a jefferies tube. She opens a hatch and sees Seven of Nine working on something. “I didn’t realize that you had been assigned here.” Torres says. Seven says that she is drawing power from the astrometrics lab. Torres says that her staff has been losing hours of work because she was draining power. “You check with me before you touch any of the systems. Understand?” Torres says to Seven. Seven tells B’Elanna that in the Collective there was no need for asking permission. “If I could adjust to Starfleet so can you.” Torres realizes that Janeway gave her that speech when she first came aboard Voyager. Then Seven leaves and Torres gets to work. * * * In sickbay Paris asks the Doctor if he can leave. He tells the Doctor that he has to give a report to Chakotay. “Why couldn’t you have given it to him earlier?” the Doctor asks. “We’ve just been so busy today.” Paris replies. The Doctor looks around at the empty sickbay. “I see,” he says sarcastically. He then allows Paris to leave. * * * Paris heads to the transporter room. He accesses the central replicator files then transports to the jefferies tube. * * * As B’Elanna is working Paris materializes above her. He has flowers in his hand. “Are you you trying to make up for canceling last night?” B’Elanna asks. “Aren’t you supposed to be in sickbay?” B’Elanna asks Tom. “I told the Doctor that I was supposed to deliver a report.” Paris says. Paris kisses Torres. Then we see Paris and Torres’s skeletons. B’Elanna gasps. “What?” Tom asks. “I have a feeling that someone is watching us.” B’Elanna says. Then she starts to laugh. “I must be paranoid about someone catching us.” * * * In Janeway’s quarters the Doctor is massaging her rather hard. The Doctor tells Captain Janeway that she is full of stress and she needs rest and food. Her body is crying out for mercy. “it certainly is now!” Janeway says talking about the Doctor’s massage. Then Chakotay calls Janeway over the comm. Janeway gets up holding a towel around herself. She starts to walk out of the door. “Captain........” the Doctor starts. “I’m needed on the bridge Doctor.” “Actually I was suggesting a change of clothes.” Janeway slaps her hand against the wall and returns to her quarters. * * * In engineering Torres tells Paris that she needs to go over some specs with him. They look to the upper workstation. * * * When they get there they start to kiss and Torres hears something. “You always hear something.” Paris says. Then Tuvok enters. Tuvok gives Torres a padd. “i didn’t expect you to be done so soon.” B’Elanna says. As Tuvok leaves Tom runs after him. “Tuvok! Tuvok!” Paris says laughing. “I’m sure that was embarrassing for you.” “I do not experience embarrassment.” “Well then there certainly isn’t anything to go on report is there?” he asks Tuvok. “You wish for me to conceal what I have observed about you and Lt. Torres?” “I would never ask you to be dishonest, Tuvok.” “Of course,” Tuvok says. * * * B’Elanna and Tom are in the turbolift. They are heading to the conference room for a briefing. “You don’t think that he will tell the Captain. Do you?” Torres asks Paris. “I don’t know.” “Well how did he sound?” “He sounded Vulcan.” “You go in first. No. That will look to suspicious. I’ll go in first.” Paris asks Torres why they have to keep making plans so nobody will find out that they are in love. “I don’t think it is anybody’s business about how we feel about each other.” Torres asks Paris if he thinks that they should keep it a secret. “Do you?” “If you do.” “Computer halt turbolift.” B’Elanna says. After they are done talking they resume the turbolift. “I’ll go first. You follow.” says Torres. * * * In the conference room Chakotay explains that they need to be careful while orbiting the binary pulsar. Janeway tells everyone to report any problems no matter how small. When everyone is dismissed Janeway asks Lt. Torres and Lt. Paris to stay. As Tuvok walks out of the room Paris says, “Thanks,” sarcastically. Janeway says that she needs to talk to them about conduct. “I guess Tuvok...” “Tuvok didn’t tell me anything.” Janeway says. “ Your relationship is your business. You need to use better judgment.” Janeway then tells them that half the ship knows about their relationship. After they leave Janeway starts to rub her head. * * * Chakotay is in his quarters. He orders black, hot coffee from the replicator. When he starts to drink it we see his skeleton. All of a sudden he drops the cup of coffee. He pulls out the sink and starts to splash water on his face. Then he notices hair in the sink. When he rubs the top of his head his hair starts to fall off. * * * In sickbay the Doctor tells Chakotay and the Captain that he is suffering with classic signs of aging all in a matter of hours. The Doctor’s scans indicate that Chakotay’s cells are hyperstimulated. Janeway thinks that it may be the gamma radiation from the binary pulsars. Chakotay tells Janeway that the shields are up. Janeway tells him that it could be a possibility. When Chakotay starts to get up the Doctor tells him that he needs to stay in sickbay for observation. When Janeway leaves she rubs her head again. “Still having headaches, Captain?” The Doctor asks. * * * In the Mess Hall Kim is telling Paris that B’Elanna and him could use better judgment and they could be more discreet. Neelix walks up to them and asks them if they would want a fresh batch of eggs. Paris tells Neelix that he does,but Kim says that he wants the Plekarine Casserole from the night before. “Paris looks at him like he is crazy. “I though it was pretty good.” Kim says. Neelix tells Kim that he would be happy to get him some. Paris tells Harry that his relationship with B’Elanna was supposed to be a secret. “Do you think anyone can keep a secret aboard this ship?” Then they hear Neelix crying out for help. Neelix is kicking pots and pans and is laying on the floor. Paris and Kim rush to help Neelix. “Paris to sickbay. Beam us over. I’s an emergency.” * * * The Doctor tells Neelix that his condition is similar to Chakotay’s. Neelix hasn’t aged though. He starts looking more and more like a Mileean. He tells the Doctor that his great - grandfather was Mileean. The Doctor says that that explains his transformation. The Doctor tells Paris that Neelix’s condition is stable. The Doctor then goes to the Science Lab. * * * Neelix struggles to walk across sickbay. He is carrying a glass of water. “I thought that you might want a drink.” Neelix says. “Thanks.” says Chakotay. Chakotay says that he smells something. Neelix says that it is his Mileean sweat glands. “It could be worse. I still have my home on Voyager. My friends.” “Your hair,” Chakotay says interrupting him. Neelix says that he would gladly lose his hair if he could have his taste buds back. Chakotay tells Neelix that one of the display panels across the room looks like a giant blur to him. Neelix says that the Doctor told him that his pupils were dilating. He can’t look at the display because it is so bright. Chakotay says that he has arthritis. Neelix tells him that his spinal cord is fusing together and in a couple of days he won’t be able to walk. “I’ve got you beat. I can barely walk now.” says Chakotay. Paris then walks in with more crew members who have experienced mutations. * * * In the science lab the Doctor looks at Chakotay’s DNA. When he magnifies the images he sees a device on one of Chakotay’s DNA base pair sequences. “What is it?” asks B’Elanna. “See for yourself.” B’Elanna walks over and looks at it. “I’m no biologist ,but I don’t think that belongs there.” “It doesn’t.” says the Doctor. B’Elanna says that it looks like the object has alien writing on it. “Who could have put this thing into Chakotay without him knowing it?” B’Elanna asks the Doctor. The Doctor finds out that it is on Neelix’s DNA too. “Are those things causing the mutations?” asks Torres. The Doctor says that there is a distinct possibility. He finds out that the object is out of phase. B’Elanna compensates for the phase variance. B’Elanna picks up a signal that is transmitting from the device. She tells the Doctor that the signal is to weak to go far. B’Elanna adjusts the sensors to a frequency of .15. When the Doctor walks over to a console he starts to shimmer. B’Elanna tells hi that someone is trying to delete his program. Then B’Elanna starts gasping for breath and she collapses onto the floor. The Doctor tries to transport himself to sickbay. “Science Lab to the Bridge!” Then he is deactivated. * * * Paris tells the Captain that in the last three hours more crew members have been getting mutations. He says that the mutations may become life threatening. B’Elanna almost died, but Paris found her in time. Harry says that the Doctor is off line. Before he was deactivated he tried to transport himself to sickbay. Harry says that something must have gone wrong. “Seven of Nine. It is the Doctor. Can you hear me. If you can make up any excuse to get out of there. I am contacting you through your Borg sensory nodes.. I am in the Da Vinchi simulation on the Holodeck on Deck 2. You cannot tell anyone about this. I will explain when you get here.” “Seven. Seven!” Seven look at Harry. He asks what happened to the Doctor. Seven says that she does not know, but she will go to the Science Lab and find out more. * * * When Seven enters the DaVinchi simulation. the Doctor tells her everything that is happening. Then the Doctor adjusts her Borg sensory nodes to a frequency of .15. Seven tells the Doctor that there are no aliens on the holodeck. The Doctor tells Seven to be careful because the aliens could be watching. The Doctor also tells Seven that she can contact him on a secure channel, Frequency Epsilon 2. * * * Seven walks down the hallway. She sees a crew member with a silver device around his head. Then she sees an alien walking in the hallway. Seven enters the turbolift and the alien follows her. The alien probes Seven with a medical device and then leaves the turbolift. Seven follows. She enters the Mess Hall. Most of the crew members there have devices on them. Seven heads back into the kitchen and uses frequency Epsilon 2. She tells the Doctor that there are aliens all over the ship and that they are doing experiments on the Voyager crew. “You’ve got to tell the Captain.” The Doctor says. * * * In Janeway’s ready room the chime rings. “Yes.Yes!” Janeway says yelling. Tuvok enters. “Good morning.” he says. “That’s a matter of opinion!” Janeway shouts. “You know. The incident with B’Elanna and Tom got me thinking. The crew is doing anything they want. Going to the Mess Hall at undesignated hours.” Janeway continues to talk. “Don’t all of the department heads report to you every day?” Janeway asks Tuvok. “Yes,” Tuvok says. “Well, straighten them out!” Janeway says yelling. Seven runs into the ready room. “Captain I wish to speak with......” Seven starts to say. She stops when she sees two aliens standing by Janeway. They are putting needles in her head. “What?” Janeway asks. Seven makes up an excuse and then quickly leaves. Janeway tells Tuvok that after the mutation crisis is over she is going to the holodeck and is going to Renaissance Tuscany. She says that there is an inn that she wants to check out. Tuvok says that he will accompany her for a glass of wine. Janeway then starts to rub her head. * * * In the Holodeck Seven tells the Doctor that she has seen 56 aliens so far. She also tells him that she got probed by one of the aliens. Seven says that she could make them visible with a modified phaser beam. The Doctor says that they might retaliate by inflicting lethal mutations upon the crew. Seven then says that she could administer a shock from the power relays and it would disable the tags. Seven walks into engineering. Seven overrides the security protocols. Then Tuvok comes down. He tells Seven to stop what she is doing. Seven tells Tuvok that she cannot tell Tuvok what she is doing. Seven then sees aliens come toward Tuvok. Seven leaps forward and grabs Tuvok’s phaser. She modifies it and fires it at one of the aliens. It turns visible. “If your comrades try to hurt me I will kill you. * * * Seven and Tuvok bring the alien to the brig. Janeway begins to talk to the alien. “Who are you and what are you doing to my crew?” she asks. The alien says that they are doing experiments to help save millions of lives. “You sound more like an invasion force to me.” says Janeway. The alien says that it is a breach of protocol to be talking to her. “How convenient. You never have to talk to your victims.” The alien says that they have been increasing Janeway’s dopamine levels. They have been wondering how much more strain Janeway can take. “Not much!” Janeway yells. She shoves the alien against the wall. “These lab rats are fighting back!” says Janeway. The alien tells Janeway that she hoped that she would be more cooperatives. The alien says that if Janeway’s crew tries to stop their projects then the experiment and its subjects will be terminated. * * * Tuvok tells Janeway that the aliens have sabotages ship systems so they cannot deactivate the tags. Then the Bridge contacts the Doctor and says that there is a medical emergency. On the Bridge a crewman is lying on the floor. gasping for breath. The Doctor says that she is in shock and that her blood pressure is extremely high. The crewman starts to go into cardiac arrest. Then she goes brain dead. The Captain gives the crewman mouth to mouth ,but the crewman still dies. “This ends now!” Janeway says. Janeway takes control of the helm and pilots the ship directly toward the binary pulsar. “Captain what are you doing?” Tuvok asks. “I’m running a little experiment of my own.” she replies. Then Seven announces that one of the aliens has entered the bridge. The alien turns visible and tries to change the course. Janeway informs her that the course is locked in and only she can change it. “This is a more reckless course of action than I expected from you.” the alien tells Janeway. Janeway tells the aliens that they raised her dopamine levels and they were going to be hear for the final results. The alien orders her to change course. “You are not in control any more!” says Janeway. “What are our odds of getting through this? One in ten?” “One in twenty,” says Tuvok. “I could kill your entire crew in an instant!” the alien yells. “Then who would be here to change our course?” Janeway asks. Then the alien disappears. Seven reports that two alien vessels are disengaging from the hull. One escapes ,but the other is ripped of and destroyed. Janeway says that if they are going to make it through the pulsars alive they have to go through full throttle so they can get enough momentum. “I hope you were exaggerating about those odds Tuvok.” “I was not.” Voyager starts to shake. Sparks fly out of consoles. The light flicker. Then Voyager finally makes it through. “i didn’t realize that you thought of me as reckless Tuvok.” “That was a poor choice of words. It was clearly an understatement.” he tells her. * * * Torres and Paris are eating dinner together. An engineering crew member says that there is a problem with the plasma manifold and he thought that she might want to look at it. “I don’t. Lock it up until morning. Being chief engineer has its advantages.” “Try the salad, Chief.” Torres says that the salad is good. “Thanks, I replicated it myself.” “Your to good for me.” Torres says. Then somebody comes to the door. It opens. It is Harry. He is returning something to Tom. He looks at B’Elanna. Then he looks at the food. “Smells good,” Harry starts to says. Paris shuts the door on him. “No more interruptions,” he says putting his communicator down. B’Elanna and Tom both agree that the Captain is right about using better conduct. “We were out of control.” says B’Elanna. Tom says that maybe they weren’t really out of control, but maybe the aliens messed with their hormones. “ Then our whole relationship could be based on an experiment.” says B’Elanna. Tom kisses B’Elanna and then says,” I don’t know about you ,but I’m anxious to see how this experiment ends.”


My Thoughts


This episode was better than I thought it would be. Finally! Janeway takes action! Instead of doing things diplomatically she used force to get rid of the aliens. There was a lot of Paris/Torres stuff in this episode.
