Species 8472





Species 8472 is an alien race that is not from our galaxy. First contact with Species 8472 came in 2374 when the Borg entered their reality. The Borg entered their reality because they wanted to assimilate Species 8472. They thought that assimilating Species 8472 would bring them closer to perfection. The Borg failed to assimilate them because the nanoprobes were useless against Species 8472. Since the Borg could not assimilate them they could not gather information about them. Without information about them the Borg could not defend themselves from Species 8472. Species 8472 launched an attack against the Borg destroying countless drones and cubes. When the USS Voyager entered Borg space they witnessed a single Species 8472 ship destroy 15 Borg cubes. When Harry Kim was injured by one of the Species 8472 aliens the Doctor was forced to find an antidote. While doing so he found that,when modified, Borg nanoprobes could be used as a weapon against Species 8472. The Borg,fearing that they would be destroyed, were forced to work with Voyager. They sent a representative to begin preparing a weapon. When a Species 8472 ship fired at Voyager the Borg sacrificed the cube so Voyager could get away. The Borg representative, Seven of Nine, and the Voyager crew managed to build a weapon that could be used against Species 8472. They destroyed about 17 Species 8472 vessels before they retreated back to their own reality.

Several months after first contact with Species 8472, the Voyager crew found a Species 8472 bioship trapped out of its reality. The bioship was being pursued by a Hirogen warship. The Species 8472 alien later infiltrated Voyager in order to escape the Hirogen. The Hirogen hunter nearly killed Species 8472 before Seven of Nine beamed it and the Hirogen onto an approaching Hirogen warship. Before the crew could find out what had happened, Voyager warped away from the Hirogen as fast as they could. Close to a year after that incident, the Voyager crew discovered a perfect replica of Starfleet Academy on an isolated station. Also, the occupants appeared to be Human. After Chakotay was sent down to investigate, he discovered that they were really Species 8472 disguised as Humans. Chakotay was sson captured and Janeway was forced to have a conference with members of Species 8472. She met with 3 of them. The leader, which took the form of groundskeeper Boothby, admitted that they were afraid of the Federation. The group later said that they were planning on planting their spies in Federation installations because they were afraid that the they would launch an assault on them with modified Borg weapons. In time, Janeway was able to make Species 8472 understand that the Federation didn't want an all out war. She explained that Voyager was the only ship that had ever encountered them. Before he left, Boothby promised to convince the others to call off the invasion. Once again, the Voyager crew set off into the unknown while Species 8472 attempted to delay a war.
