Lieutenant B'Elanna Torres




Lt. B’Elanna Torres is a former Maquis and the Chief Engineer of the USS Voyager. B’Elanna is half Human and half Klingon. B’Elanna was chosen over Lt. Carey for the position of Chief Engineer shortly after the Maquis crew joined Voyager after their ship was destroyed in the Delta Quadrant. Torres, along with Tuvok, was given a lecture from Janeway when she tried to install an alien technology into the main computer against orders. The ship was almost destroyed ,but Torres destroyed the device which could have transported them 40,000 light years closer to home. Lt. Tuvok was demoted for his actions and Janeway told Torres that she didn’t want to see B’Elanna go against orders again. (Prime Factors) B’Elanna was once captured and split into two beings, one Klingon and one Human, by the Vidiians. (Faces) She was later restored to her regular self by the Doctor. B’Elanna dropped out of Starfleet Academy after two years. One of her teachers, Professor Chapman, was impressed with B’Elanna’s thinking and said that he would submit her for reentrance if she ever wished to come back to the Academy. (Parallax) B’Elanna was on the Starfleet Academy decathlon team. The coach was furious with her when she quit. (Basics Part 2) When Voyager once helped an alien race one of the aliens sent past memories of terrible things that their people did. Torres found out who was sending the messages. It was an alien woman who was dying. She wanted Torres to tell everyone what happened in their past. Then she informed the other aliens of the things they did in the past. She accused them of killing the woman who sent her the memories. Since the aliens were telepathic Torres managed to get one of the aliens to receive the memories from her so her people could find out the things that they had been hiding from themselves. (Remember) In 2374 B’Elanna came up with a new kind of transporter lock called a skeletal lock. (Scorpion Part 1) In early 2375 Torres was almost killed by an unstable hologram. The Doctor managed to save her though. (Revulsion) In early 2375 B’Elanna developed a relationship with Lt. Tom Paris. Captain Janeway once gave them a briefing about conduct and told them to use better judgment about their relationship. (Scientific Method)
