Synopsis
Seven of Nine is contacted by a group of Borg from Unimatrix Zero, a place where one in every million Borg drones can go when they are regenerating. While the drones are in Unimatrix Zero, they can be individuals again. Seven discovers that she used to be a member of Unimatrix Zero, but she doesn't remember because once the drones leave it, they lose all memory of it until they return.
A man named Axum, who was a close friend of Seven's for over six years, begs for her help. Apparantly, the Borg Queen has discovered Unimatrix Zero and is attempting to destroy it. Seven agrees to help, as does the Voyager crew. With Tuvok's help, Janeway's mind is linked to Seven's, allowing the Captain to accompany Seven to Unimatrix Zero. While they are there, the Queen sends her personal drones to throw the inhabitants of Unimatrix Zero back into reality, where they will be destroyed. Using a Klingon bat'leth, Janeway fights off the drones. However, the Queen happens to witness this, and she makes it a goal to get rid of the Voyager.
Tuvok, Janeway, and B'Elanna plan to sneak aboard a Borg Cube and plant a virus, which will allow the inhabitants of Unimatriz Zero to retain their memories and fight back in the real world. If all goes as planned, a Borg Civil War will be started and the Unimatrix Zero inhabitants will be victorious. The Borg could finally be destroyed. Tom Paris, who was recently promoted back to Lieutenant, doesn't want B'Elanna to risk her life, but she decides to go anyway.
Seven locates a heavily armored Borg Cube, and the away team takes the Flyer and attempts to sneak through the Borg's shields while they engage Voyager in battle. They get through, but the Queen detects them. She has the Flyer immediately destroyed, but not before the away team beams onto the Borg vessel with their compression phaser rifles.
The team walks through the Borg Cube, phasering down drones left and right. However, the drones soon adapt. Using their rifles as weapons, the away team tries to fight their way out of the cube. They are unsuccessful. Tuvok, Captain Janeway, and B'Elanna are all assimilated as a smug Borg Queen watches with an evil smile on her face. She takes a deept breath as she feels the Voyager crewmembers enter the Collective mind.
Aboard Voyager, the Doctor shouts above the explosions that the away team member's lifesigns are fading. Chakotay replies, "So far, so good." Everything is going according to plan. The entire bridge crew glances at him as he gives the order to retreat.

My Thoughts
"Unimatrix Zero" isn't quite as good as Voyager's Season 3 cliffhanger "Scorpion", but it's certainly the best season finale since then. It's also one of Voyager's best Borg episodes, and I'm really looking forward to the conclusion. We were treated to a truly exceptional musical score by Dennis McCarthy and to some magnificent visual effects. The effects were at their best when Voyager engaged a heavily armored Borg Cube in battle. At one point, the camera circles Voyager while torpedoes and phaser beams fly left and right. At the beginning of this episode, Tom Paris was finally promoted back to Lieutenant. Also, the Delta Flyer was destroyed and three important Voyager crewmembers were assimilated! Jeri Ryan turned in a wonderful performance, as did everyone else on the cast. (The only one who didn't really play a role in this episode was Neelix.) It was nice to see Seven of Nine as Annika. She seemed friendlier and more human. Oh, Susanna Thompson did a good job portraying the Borg Queen. All of the other guest stars were great as well. I really like cliffhangers, and I'm glad that Voyager's last one turned out to be a good one. I only hope that Part 2 will be just as good. Although it won't beat "Scorpion" in my book, will "Unimatrix Zero" turn out to be better than last year's "Equinox"? I'm not sure. Only time will tell. My Rating: 10.00 out of 10.00
