Vanetin leads you into a cave, almost empty but for
a tall, thin man in the corner, who is gazing thoughtfully at an egg.
You see that it's the man you saw in the Main
Cavern, Jancent.
He spots you and Vanetin as you walk in, and waves, striding over to meet
you and smiling, "Hello, Vanetin. And hello to you as well, Dreamer."
He puts out a hand to shake, and you take it firmly, a bit surprised at
the strength in his grip, something his lithe appearance didn't suggest.
He nods to you, then gestures over to a round table with chairs on four
sides, "Please, come in, have a seat." He leads the way, sitting
comfortable in the chair nearest to a large worn-down patch of the floor,
which is filled with a lot of warm sand, and the tiny dragon sprawled across
the sand. You take a seat opposite from him, and Vanetin sits to
your right. Jancent smiles to you as you look around, trying to find
something nice to say about the place, and he makes it unnecessary, gesturing
fondly to the dragon, "This is Dracallith's cave. His egg was laid
by Trilleth.
Vanetin here was kind enough to provide the accomodations for me."
Vanetin nods, then smiles to you both, rising from
her chair, "Sorry, Janc, but I have to go check on something in the Dragonhall."
She smiles to you, "I'll meet you back out there when you're done in here."
She turns to go, and before she reaches the door, she turns and shakes
a finger at Jancent, "Don't you scare our Guest off now, dear Brother."
She smiles again, then disappears through the door.
Jancent waves to Vanetin as she leaves, then leans
back in his chair, looking around the cave self-consciously, "Well, I know
it's not much to look at, but it's home. And things will speed up
some now that Dracallith's getting bigger." He smiles at that, and
you see him drifting off, a fond smile for the still-small dragon.
You clear your throat, and Jancent's gaze turns back to you, "Oh, yes,
well.. I signed up to be a Candidate for the clutch of dragon eggs.
I must admit," he confides, leaning forward to speak quietly, "I was nervous.
But don't tell my sis-- Er. Vanetin that." He smiles. Looking
around, he shrugs, "Well, there's not much else for you in here.
Like she said, Vanetin should be waiting out in the Hall for you."
He gestures to the door,
then takes out a small piece of wood and a knife, whittling a small figure,
but you can't tell what it is.
