Writer: Joe Casey Pencils: Ryan Benjamin Inks: ???
Guest-Starring: Domino, Blaquesmith, and Irene Merryweather (the reporter)
The artwork is so much better than it has been. Too bad Benjamin is only a guest penciler. Although I wouldn't give him an "A", he has earned a good and strong "B". BTW, I only gave Ladronn a "D-minus"-he only avoided an "F" because I could still make out the identities of some of the characters.
This was a good issue, portraying dark side to Cable's character. It was a fun read. I whole-heartedly recommend it.
Score: I give it 4 X's out of 5.
Complaint:
This is just barely a complaint. When Blockade was playing cards, I recognized Morris as Hydro-Man, but who was "Stilts"? Is there a Stilt-Man?
Kudos:
I just added this section to my reviews. It is reserved for things that I found especially well-done, interesting, or just plain neatÑthings that had little to do with the actual plot. In other words, I want to recognize the "extras".
I loved the entire scene in the bar before Blockade's and Cable's fight. The story Sid told about the Unicorn was a nice touch. And if any of you are familiar with the "real" story, you would know that he was very accurate. So kudos for remember "history" and continuity!
I also loved the fact that Blockade was playing cards with established MU villains..........but not X-villains! I just wished I knew who the "fourth" they were waiting on was! And I liked their conversation about mutants being loners one minute and then hanging with Capt. America and the Avengers the next.
These little touches improved the book greatly. Excellent writing.
Plot:
As Domino is being attacked by Blockade, Blaquesmith confronts Cable. While beginning to argue, Cable suddenly realizes that Domino is being stomped by Blockade via their psychic rapport. He runs to her aid.
Unfortunately, he gets their only in time to pull her from a riverside and rush her to the hospital. Then basically Cable goes out for revenge.
He hunts Blockade down, a fight ensues (busting up the bar that Blockade was playing cards in), and then Cable "enters" Blockade's mind and basically switches it off. This leaves Blockade completely catatonic. A fate worse than death maybe?
Irene writes in her laptop concerning it:
He wasn't going out to lead the chargeÉto fight the good fight...to RIGHT a WRONG...No...he wanted REVENGE, plain and simple...but I wonder how he felt afterwards? I wonder if he felt much like a HERO? Probably not.
