I like the way things are progressing for the kids these days. For one thing, they're finally studying and training again ( and there seems to be no sign of ctuesy, talking animals and interdimensional thingamajigs ).
Terry Dodson's pencils are great too. Sure he doesn't have the flair of Bacahalo ( but then that guy had the help of some amazing colors by 'Electric Crayon' unlike now ). I've never seen the kids look so good - especially Emma and Jono. Actually, I've never seen Jono look good ( except here - where it's no wonder Paige is all over those puppy-dog brown eyes ). The only gripe is that Sean looks like some musclebound quarterback ( where did his neck go? )
It starts with the kids training in their new Danger Room ( which is more similar to the X-Men's infamous room than their old Grotto ). Obviously, they haven't been training recently as they got totally creamed. Sean for one is not amused.
Things are not looking up for Emma Frost either as she finds out that she isn't that rich anymore ( from billions to millions - oh the horror! ) Her financial planner bungles up and she gets a major hit on the stock markets - which bodes ill for the School and I don't think the financial planner is gonna be long for this mortal plane either. True to her character, she decides to 'motivate' her investors. Ever the honorable gentleman, Sean dissuades Emma from embarking on such a course - mouthing off stuff like setting a good example and taking the setbacks as a challenge. Amazingly enough, Emma concedes and decides to take another alternative, which is to ask her sister for a loan. Not the nasty Cordelia but another one, Adrienne Frost ( who is supposed even more successful than Emma herself ). Her family is starting to as convoluted as the infamous Summers Family. Even Sean is getting a headache.
One wonders why she finds it hard to go to her sister for help when Emma admits that they were 'quite close' as they were growing up.
It was nice to see the verbal banter between Sean and Emma in the earlier issues. What happened to that sizzle? The sensual undertones? Granted they might never end up together, but they can still flirt, can't they?
From the cover, it's obvious that Monet and Jubilee finally have a fight. It starts out quite innocently as a one-to-one in the new Danger Room. Soon it develops into a verbal altercation as Jubilee demands to know why M is so... well, M. Jubilee was very close to Monet when she was still in her Penance form. Monet however is affronted as she takes Jubilee's kindness as patronising and incredibly humiliating. It culminates with Monet slamming Jubilee on the wall and telling her a fairy tale *grin* The Scorpion and the Fox.
We just to love to hate M. From what she says, we have to conclude that Monet is genetically born a bitch - she can't help it, the poor girl. As Monet was equally nasty when the younger twins inhabited her, we have to assume that all three sisters are equally bitchy. Ala the Frost sisters. Must be some inherited mutant power. I have to hope that Jubes finally puts M in her place. Not that I love Jubilee so much but it would be nice to see the bad woman get her come-uppance for once. Maybe let her swallow a few heated plasmoids. I am definitely waiting for Round Two. Perhaps a cat-fight over a certain male in the team?
In an interesting side story, Paige finally returns to Massachusetts. The incredibly cute Jono ( did I mention that he's looking better everyday? ) doesn't know how to act anymore after his emotional outburst when he sent Paige off. The scene where he greets Paige is definitely classic. Who can't remember the anguish in Jono's eyes as he sees his friend, Angelo, abandoning him alone with Paige. Encouraged by Jono's last words, Paige is all set to continue where they left off but Jono gives her an indifferent cold shoulder. This confuses the poor gel so much that she has to seek advice from a total stranger who had been chained to a rock for eternity - Gaea. Talk about desperate.
It ends with a familiar taxi coming to the fron gate - and guess who arrives. Think South Africa, think weird vocab and think dirty lil pets. One wonders where he has been for so long ( could it be that it took him months to arrive? Did he lose his way? )
