The ruthless Marauders are perhaps the greatest threat the X-Men have ever battled. Their greatest crime was the slaughter of hundreds of innocent and defenseless Morlocks in what would be known as the Mutant Masacre. Though their members have changed over the years, their purpose always remains the same: to murder any and all mutants, the exception being themselves, and to obediently fullfil Mr. Sinister's every desire.

   At Mr. Sinister's biding, Gambit found and assembled the deadliest killing force ever known. Though he may not have known it at the time, Gambit lead the assasins down into the Morlock tunnels to begin the slaughter. When he realised what they intended to do, he attempted to fight back but he was no match against them, and Sabretooth easily dispatched him. As he fled from the carnage he saved a young Morlock who would later become Marrow. They are, essentially, deathless for Mr. Sinister has discovered the secrets of cloning so when they are killed they soon rise from the dead. In their original incarnation, the Marauders consisted of: Scalphunter (the leader), Arclight, Harpoon, Blockbuster, Riptide, Scrambler, Vertigo, Prism, and Sabretooth. The last member of their team was Malice who would later posses Lorna Dane and become their leader.

   Scalphunter: This assasin is a master marksman and can construct a multitude of guns in a matter of seconds.

   Arclight- Arclight is one of the team's powerhouses. Her mutant ability to generate earthquake vibrations with her punches makes her a fearsome opponent. Her attitude is very bloodthirsty and cocky.

   Harpoon- The Inuit hunter Harpoon has the ability to channel energy into objects, namely harpoons, which upon impact burn through the victim. Though he fights with a quiet dignity he's no less a killer.

   Blockbuster- The oversized behomoth known as Blockbuster is possesed of super strength and invulnerbility.

   Riptide- The whirling dirvish called Riptide is capable of spinning at super high speeds which, in essence, make him a small tornado. While twirling he delights in spraying opponents with volleys of shiruikens, laughing all the time. During the Mutant Masacre he was killed by Colossus as his body continued to spin while Colossus held his throat, breaking his neck.

   Scrambler- One of the weaker Marauders, Scrambler's mutant ability is the power to disrupt the powers of fellow mutants upon touch. His touch causes haywires, explosion and more often than not, his own death.

   Vertigo- The former Savage Land mutate named Vertigo is capable of causing intense nausea and dizziness in her opponents.

   Prism- Prism's body is made of a crystaline substance through which he can amplify light and energy reflecting it in laser blasts.

   Sabretooth- The killing machine known as Sabretooth used his deadly claws to carve up many Morlocks during the Mutant Masacre.

   Malice- The incorporeal entity known as Malice is capable of possesing other people's bodies and dominating their personalities. She loves to bring out the evil in people's hearts and has attempted to corrupt many people. For a time she possesed Dazzler until the X-Men defeated her. Most noteably however she inhabited the body of Polaris, Lorna Dane, using her magnetic powers to lead the Marauders after the Mutant Masacre. When she attempted to seperate herself from Polaris, she found could not. Their was far too much malice in Lorna Dane's soul, and the two were, as Mr. Sinister put it, made for eachother. Eventually Lorna escaped Malice's possesion and when Malice attempted to posses Lorna's love, Havok, she was torn to shreads by the strength of the two lovers wills.
