Chronicles of the Forgotten Animorphs: The Price

Prologue

Hi, my name is Amelia. No last name, no address, nothing that can connect me to this story. Nothing. No one will know who I am. What I did. The choice I made. Not until the Yeerks are gone. Not until I’m free.

You know, one little meaningless action can affect an entire galaxy. That’s where my story starts, with a little meaningless phone call about a little meaningless science book.

Chapter One

Rrrriiiinnnggg!!!!!!

I picked up the phone "Hello?"

"Amelia! It’s Laura!"

"Wuz up?"

"I left my science book in my locker! I’m soooooo dead! I’ve got this, like, huge test tomorrow!"

"Calm down! Can’t you just cram between classes? Or lunch?"

"The test is first period."

"Oh."

"Listen, I’ve got this plan to get the book tonight. We can sneak into the school through that science room window that doesn’t lock."

"That’s crazy!"

"Come on! You’ve got to help."

"What do you need me for?"

"I need a excuse to get out of the house. Duh! We’ll just say we’re going shopping."

"Oh fine."

Chapter Two

Fifteen minutes later, we were sneaking around the side of the school.

"This is so stupid," I whispered.

"You only think that ‘cause you’re not the one having a crisis," Laura paused. "Here it is." She started hoisting herself up the window. "Coming?"

"Nah, I think I’ll just wait for you here."

Laura disappeared from my sight. I leaned against the brick wall and waited. I tried to figure out why I was sneaking around the school at 9:00 at night.

"AHHHHH!!"

I jumped. Someone had just screamed. I rushed towards the sound. As I came to the corner, I skidded to a stop. About a hundred yards in front of me, the water tower loomed over a wolf and a gorilla. Yep, a wolf and a gorilla.

Lying on the ground were two men. They were all illuminated by light coming out of a hole in the ground.

I was about to run and call the police (thinking animals had escaped from the Gardens) when the animals started changing. Have you ever seen that guy Odo on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine does that shape-shifting thing? Well, this was kind of like that except it took longer and way grosser. Talk about creepy!

I took me a minute to figure out that they were turning into humans. As I watched, a short black girl emerged from a wolf. I stared at her. She’s in my English class! What was her name? Cassie.

I noticed that the gorilla had turned into guy. Hey! I realized Laura has a crush on that guy!

All of a sudden a, well, I guess the word for it is, alien-thingy-that-looks-like-a-cross-between-a-deer-a-person-and-a-scorpion came out of the hole in the ground. Then a tall guy with brown hair came out of the hole. He was immediately followed by a blond girl with a model’s figure. I squinted. She turned slightly. I gasped. Rachel! One of my friends. What was she doing here?

They started walking away. I was about to follow them when I remembered Laura. Damn! She was probably looking for me!

I ran back and arrive as she was climbing out.

"Hey, Amelia."

"Did you get it?"

"Yep" She held up the book triumphantly.

We started walking back home "You know that guy you have a crush on?" I asked

"What about him?"

"What’s his name again?"

"Marco."

"And who’s that guy he’s best friends with?"

"You mean Jake?"

"Yeah"

"What’s with all the questions?"

"Just curious."

Laura looked at me and then shrugged. We remained silent the rest of the way home.

Chapter Three

The next day at school I looked for Rachel, but I couldn’t find her. However, Cassie, Jake, and Marco were there. They all looked super-tense. Since Rachel wasn’t around, I snagged Cassie after school.

"We need to talk."

She looked at me, surprised. "Do I know you?"

"It’s about Rachel."

"Okay, shoot."

"Let’s go somewhere private."

"Okay"

We walk out into the yard and separated from the mob that was flooding out of the school.

"What did you want to tell me?"

"I saw you last night."

Cassie looked only slightly more nervous. "So? What’s the big deal?"

"What’s the big deal? The big deal is that last night I saw a bunch of animals and an X-Files leftover turn into people. Namely you, Rachel, Jake, and Marco."

I have to admire her self-control. She barely blinked. "I don’t know what you’re talking about."

I decided to try a different approach. "You either tell me what you were doing or I tell every newspaper what I saw. I have a feeling you don’t want anyone to know your little secret."

Cassie paled. "Stay here and don’t move." She headed towards a group of guys including Jake and Marco. She grabbed Jake’s arm and headed back. The guys started making kissing noises.

"We have a big problem," Cassie pointed at me. "She knows who we are, Jake. She saw us morphing, and she saw Ax."

"Is she a..." Jake’s voice faded.

Cassie shook her head. "If she was, we’d all be dead by now."

"We’ll talk more at the meeting later." Jake left.

I looked at Cassie. "What’s morphing?"

"Basically it’s changing into another animal."

"That thing you did behind the school last night?"

Cassie nodded. "We better head for my farm." She headed for the bike stand. "Did you bring your bike?"

I nodded.

Chapter Four

As soon as we got to Cassie’s house, she started checking the bandages of the injured animals in the barn. I pulled out my science homework and started tackling it.

About ten minutes later Jake and Marco arrived. We gave introductions. Cassie somehow persuaded both of them to help with the animals. Marco started telling really stupid jokes. He was halfway through a punchline when a bird flew in, turned around and started to fly out.

"Tobias, is okay," Cassie waved.

The bird perched in the rafters. < What happened now?>

I blink. "Did that bird just talk?"

"It’s called thought-speak. Kind of like telepathy," Jake explained. "You'll get used to it."

"Hey Tobias, I think you need to get Ax," Marco called. "We have a big problem."

The bird nodded and flew off.

A few minutes later, he returned with a guy: The guy that the alien had morphed into the previous night.

"Is he the alien?" I asked.

Tobias nodded. < His name is Ax.>

"Uh, hi." I gave a teeny smile.

He looked at me, then at Jake. "Prince Jake, are you sure she’s not a Controller? Troller, leeeeer."

"Don’t call me prince, and no, she not a Controller. If she was, we’d all be dead by now. Or worse." He said darkly.

At that moment Rachel walked through the door of the barn. She stared at me. "Amelia! Uh, hi. What are you doing here?"

"Relax, Xena. Our cover’s blown already." Marco grinned.

"Rachel, don’t mind Marco." Jake gave him a dirty look. "Amelia just knows we can morph. By the way, speaking of morphing, how did you get here anyway?"

"I flew." Rachel said shortly.

"You know we aren’t suppose to use morphing for personal reasons." Jake stared at Rachel. She stared back at him. It was like a contest.

"Guys!" Cassie interrupted them. "I think we have a more important issue to deal with right now."

Jake nodded. "Okay, Amelia. What’s this all about."

I told him what I had told Cassie. When I was done Jake shook head.

"I guess you want to know what we were doing."

I nodded.

"We were cutting through the construction site behind the mall." Jake paused. "A spaceship landed. It was carrying this alien, an Andalite, who told us that Earth was being invaded by Yeerks. Yeerks are these snails-like things that crawl inside your brain and take over your body. You become a slave in your own body, a Controller. He gave us the power to morph. To become any animal we can acquire the DNA from. Ever since then we’ve be trying to stop the Yeerks."

"How? By turning into animals?"

"That and sheer luck." Rachel shrugged. "We know they have Taxxon-Controllers and Hork-Bajir-Controllers..."

I raised my eyebrows. "Are those alien species? Whatever happened to Klingons and Cardassians?"

This got a chuckle from everyone except Ax. I guess aliens don’t have much of a sense of humor.

"You know," Cassie said thoughtfully. "We should ask Amelia to join the Animorphs."

Marco grinned. "So who cares if she can’t morph. All in favor of a new member, say aye!"

"Aye!" Everyone chorused. Well, everyone but Ax who had no idea what we were voting on.

Everyone started telling me about their fights against the Yeerks. How Visser Three had an Andalite host. How they had rescued Ax. How cool it was to become a bird and soar through the sky. They told me everything. Rachel started talking about some guy called the Ellimist.

"He’s kind of like Q on Star Trek. He has the power to do anything. He offered us a chance to go to another planet when we were in the Yeerk Pool. We said no."

"Why?" I asked.

Rachel shrugged. "I guess we saw a way out."

Marco looked up. "I’ve been thinking. If the Ellimist asks again, I’ll say yes. That is, as long as certain people come with me."

I saw Jake and Marco share a look. I had a feeling there was something about the "certain people" that the rest of us didn’t know about.

< You’re giving up?> Asked Tobias. < Why?>

"All we do is lose. We blow up a few ships, get the Yeerks pissed at us, but the invasion continues. One of these days we’ll all going to end up dead."

"I don’t care." Jake snapped. "I’m not going to run away."

Cassie smiled sadly at Jake. She pointed to scar above her wrist. "A raccoon bit me. It was caught in a trap and I was trying to free it."

"We’re not raccoons," Jake said stubbornly.

"To the Ellimist we are." Cassie shot back. "Maybe he’s right. Maybe he’s just trying to get us out of the Yeerk trap and save the human race."

Rachel turned to me. "What do you think?"

I shook my head. "This isn’t my decision."

"Yes it is. You’re an Animorph now."

I took a deep breath. "I’d have to agree with Cassie. This guy is like an environmentalist trying to save an endangered species. I wouldn’t stick around and wait until we’re extinct." I shrugged. "Maybe, we can start a new civilization. And someday, we can come back. Come back and save Earth."

"Ax?" Jake asked.

"It is not my decision Prince Jake. But I do not trust the Ellimist."

"Don’t call me prince."

"Yes, Prince Jake."

Jake looked at Rachel. "Well?"

Rachel looked torn. After all, she was the deciding vote. She opened her mouth.

I PROMISED I WOULD ASK YOU AGAIN.

"Uh-oh." Marco said.

I WILL SHOW YOU WHAT YOU NEED TO UNDERSTAND.

Chapter Five

All of a sudden, we were out of the barn. We were standing in an empty field.

"Tobias!" Rachel cried.

I looked at him. He was human. Ax was back in his Andalite body.

"Where are we?" Cassie wondered.

I looked around. The place looked familiar.

"The school!" Tobias gasped.

I stared at the destroyed buildings. He was right.

"I don’t like this." Marco shook his head. "Normally, I’d be happy if the school blew up but something is really wrong here."

"When did this happen?" Rachel asked.

"I think this is the future." Cassie sounded distracted. She was staring at the sky.

I looked up. It was a yellowish color.

"Have you ever seen it like that?" Cassie asked. "And the air, it smells funny."

"What are we supposed to do?" Marco asked.

Jake shrugged. "Let’s look around. The mall’s not far away."

So we headed towards the mall. A few minutes later we reached the highway. It was empty. Not a single vehicle on the entire road. To the east I could see some kind of tube.

"What the hell is that?" I whispered.

Ax looked at it. < It a conveyance. Like your trains, only faster.>

We kept walking and soon reached the mall.

"Oh God!" I gasped.

There were holes on the walls of the department stores. And these giant centipedes were crawling in and out. I think their called Taxxons. It was sickening.

"Let’s get out of here before someone notices us." Tobias said.

"Why?" Marco asked. "Here, the Yeerks won. They’ll think we’re Controllers."

I noticed that the Yeerk version of a train stopped there. "Let’s go for a little ride on the train." I suggested.

Rachel shrugged. "Why not?"

< I will morph a human.> Ax said. < The Yeerks will not be accustomed to Andalite-Controllers besides Visser Three.>

We rode a drop shaft up to the roof of the mall. Let me tell you something. When you’re floating up this little tube while standing on empty air, don’t look down. We rode the train until it got to downtown. Then we saw the Yeerk Pool. It was gigantic. Like a small lake. There were cages surrounding it, filled with people. We walked around a bit more. Then I saw the ship. It looked like a giant bug.

I turned to Rachel. "What is that?"

"Bug Fighter."

I started walking towards it.

"Where are you going?" Jake asked.

"Stay there." I kept walking. It landed in front of me. The hatch opened.

An Andalite stepped out. He looked a lot like Ax except he was a little bigger. But he felt different. It was like evil was radiating from him.

"Visser Three!" Rachel hissed

I turn. She was standing behind me. So were the others.

"I told you not to follow me." I turned back to the ship.

A woman stepped out. I recognized her.

It was me.

Chapter Six

"Hello, Amelia." She said.

I didn’t answer. I didn’t want to.

"Let’s get out of here." I started to walk away.

"This is just some Ellimist trick." Rachel said. "It’s not real."

< This is very real. It happened just like my lieutenant said it would.>

"Oh yeah?" Marco challenged. "What did she tell you?"

< An Ellimist brought you here. In your own time, you faced a choice. The Ellimist brought you six humans and one Andalite here to show you the future.>

During this entire time I was thinking. "You know, if this is the future where the Yeerks win, then they wouldn’t want to change the past."

"What do you mean?" Jake asked.

But Rachel understood. "What do you think would happen if we attack?"

< I have hundreds of Hork-Bajir I can call.>

I smiled. "And what it one of them kills one of us? You don’t know how that would change the future."

Rachel began to morph a grizzly. Jake started to morph too.

All of a sudden, we were back in Cassie’s barn.

I sighed. "Pretty bleak future, huh?"

Nobody said any thing.

I tried to lighten the mood. "So is there anything else I should know? Better tell me before the Ellimist takes us on another road trip."

We started talking again. Rachel began a detailed description of some club ran by the Yeerks.

"...It’s called the Sharing and..."

I frowned. "What about the Sharing."

"It’s a front for the Yeerks. They use it to get new hosts. All the full members are Controllers."

"No!" I jumped up. "You’re lying! My parents aren’t Controllers! They’re my parents!" I was yelling now.

Cassie stood up. "Amelia, it’s okay."

"Look, Amelia." Jake stood up. "I know what you’re going through. My brother’s one of them."

"I’m sorry," I whispered

"Once we went down to the Yeerk Pool to try to save him. That’s when Tobias got stuck in morph."

"Stuck?"

"If you stay in morph for longer than two hours, you can’t turn back to human anymore." Cassie explained.

She started to tell me about morphing. I wasn’t paying attention. My mind was on something else: My parents.

"Amelia?" Rachel was staring at me. "Is something wrong?"

I shook my head. "No, I was just thinking. Four months ago my dad quit his job and started his own business. I was really surprised cause his old job was really great and he loved it. What was even weirder is that my mom didn’t care. Then they started ignoring me." I managed a shaky laugh. "I guess that what happens when your parents become aliens. Anyway, last month my parents went to a meeting of the Sharing. When they got back they were acting like they had won the lottery. Ever since then my dad spends most of his time locked up in the office typing on his computer." I took a deep breath. "I want to help you fight the Yeerks. There’s something major about the Yeerks on that computer. It might be able to help you."

Everyone stared at me. Finally, Marco broke the silence.

He turned to Rachel. "Don’t tell me..."

Rachel interrupted him before he got to finish. "Let’s do it."

"Not tonight," I said. "Tomorrow, there’s a meeting for the Sharing at eight. I’ll call you when my parents leave."

Chapter Seven

The next night, I watch my parents leave. Then I called the others. At 8:17, we were all assembled in my dad’s office. I wiped my sweaty palms and turned on the computer. Then I let Ax take over. He was way better than me in terms of computers. In a few minutes, we had access to everything. There were only three files that were my dad’s. We opened the first one. It was a calendar. There were dates for Sharing meetings, appointments, and trips to the Yeerk Pool. We couldn’t understand half of it. The next file consisted of business invoices and bills. Probably to make it seem like he had a real business. In the third file we hit Jackpot.

I was a link to a secret web page. The web page had a list of every human Controller with their name, address, phone number, and the Yeerk’s rank. Also, it broadcast future Yeerk plans.

Rachel stared at it. "Man, now we know everything. We know who to watch for, we can follow them and learn their plans."

"We know who we can trust." Cassie smiled.

Tobias looked at her. < We can’t trust anyone.>

"Yes, we can." Cassie said. "Whoever isn’t on this list isn’t a Controller. That’s why we were keeping this a secret in the first place: Because we couldn’t trust anyone. Now we can."

"No one will believe us." Rachel crossed her arms.

"All we have to do is morph." Marco shrugged.

Cassie looked at Jake. "What do you think?"

Jake shrugged. "I think we should think this over and decide tomorrow."

We all agreed on that and everyone went home.

Chapter Eight

The next day at school, we met at in the yard at lunch.

"So let’s vote." I said. "Rachel and Tobias are against. Cassie and Marco are for. Jake?"

"I’m for, I guess. What about Ax?"

< I talked to him,> Tobias said. < He said it’s not his decision but he thinks it’s a bad idea. He said he’d do whatever Jake tells him.>

Everyone looked at me.

"Uh, I guess you should tell somebody, but not around here. Go to the White House and tell the President. Or tell those people at Zone 91. I mean, they are suppose to have a alien spaceship."

Jake took a deep breath. "There’s a barbecue tonight for the Sharing. We’ll meet at Amelia’s house at six-thirty and check the site out again."

We all agreed and separated. I paid very little attention to my afternoon classes. All I could think about was what we were about to do. As I walked home, I wondered what it would be like to morph into an animal. I opened the front door, strolled in, and closed it. As I stepped into the kitchen to get a snack, I snapped out of my daydream. My father was standing in front of me. He was holding something in his hand. Something that looked like an alien weapon.

"Dad!" I said as brightly as I could. "I didn’t know you would be home this afternoon. I thought you were setting up for that barbecue."

He stared coolly at me. "Don’t play with me human. I know you broke into my files."

"What are you talking about?" No! He can’t know! How? I can’t let him know my secret, or my friends are dead. I have to pretend I don’t know what he’s talking about.

The Yeerk was no longer pretending to be human. He looked at me with utter contempt and arrogance. "I know you broke into my files, but no human child could break such a ridged code. It was an Andalite who did that. Are you an Andalite? Or a human who can morph?"

He must have seen the look on my face because he laughed. "That’s it isn’t it? The so-called Andalite bandits are not Andalites at all. They’re humans."

I blinked at him. "Andalites? What are Andalites?"

The Yeerk sneered. "You can’t fool me, human."

I turned and ran.

Then everything went black.

Chapter Nine

I opened my eyes. I was in a cage. I looked around. The Yeerk pool. Rachel had told me about this place. It was huge. I saw an alien head towards me. It looked like Marco’s detailed description of a Hork-Bajir. Marco! The others were supposed to meet me. I looked at my watch. 5:03. The Hork-Bajir opened the cage door and grabbed my arm.

"Noooooooooooooo!!!!" I screamed. I couldn’t become a Controller. If I did, the Yeerks would know everything. I started kicking and punching the Hork-Bajir. He just grabbed my other arm and dragged me to the end of a line. The line moved quickly. Within ten minutes, I was at the head of it. The Hork-Bajir shoved my head down. I stared at the steel colored liquid. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw the Yeerk. It crawled into my ear. The pain was so intense. Like someone was drilling a hole in my head. I couldn’t move.

It only took the Yeerk a few minutes to get control.

< Get out of me!>

Then I heard the Yeerk.

< Get out of my head you fucking Yeerk!>

< Do you want to know who I am? I am Visser Thirty-two.>

< A great and powerful Visser? What did you ever want with a puny little host like me?>

< Do not mock me human. Under-Visser Twenty-four claimed you were a human who knew of our invasion. I decided to put his claim to the test. Now, I will capture the rest of your little band. I will be promoted.>

I realized that we had step out of the line. In fact, we were headed towards a group of buildings. The Yeerk opened a door and walked in. I saw my father, or at least his body.

"You were right, Under-Visser Twenty-four. This human knows of the invasion." The Yeerk was using my voice to say things. All I could do was listen.

"Is your host capable of morphing?"

"No. However, she does know five other humans who also are aware of our invasion. Four of them are morph-capable. With the help of one Andalite, they are the Andalite bandits that are causing us setbacks."

< I’m not going to let you hurt my friends!>

< There is nothing you can do. No host can overpower a Yeerk. Resistance is futile.>

Chapter Ten

At that moment, Visser Three walked into the room. I could sense the Yeerk’s fear of him, but it was not great. He was on good terms with Visser Three.

"Visser Three! Welcome. Visser Thirty-Two greets you."

< You have a new host.>

"Yes, Visser Three. I have discovered something from this new host."

< Continue.>

"The Andalite bandits you have been search for are really humans. They call themselves the Animorphs"

< How do you know that?>

"This host is good friends with them. She considers herself an Animorph."

Visser Three nodded.

"Under-Visser Twenty-four suspected her of knowing of your invasion."

Visser Three looked at my father.

"May I suggest a plan, Visser Three?"

< Yes.>

"This human had plans to meet the Animorphs tonight, during the Sharing barbecue. When they come to the meeting, we will capture them."

Visser Three nodded.

"At six thirty."

< The time now?"

The Yeerk looked at my watch. "Five forty-one."

< The place of this meeting?>

"At my host’s home."

< I will take a team to that place. Now go.>

"Yes, Visser Three." The Yeerk turned and left the room. We started climbing a flight of stairs. The stairs were long. I thought they would never end. Finally, we came to a door. My hand lifted and touched a white square beside the door. The door swished into the wall. I stepped through and it closed behind me. I noticed I was in a closet. I opened the closet door and walked into an office. Chapman’s office. Jake had told me he was a high ranking Controller.

Chapman was sitting in his desk. He jumped up. "Young lady, what are you doing in my..."

"Iniss two two six!" My voice was surprisingly sharp.

Chapman blinked. "Who are you?"

The Yeerk sneered. "Visser Thirty-Two."

"My Visser! My apologies! I was not aware you had a new host."

The Yeerk ignored Chapman’s blabbering and walked out of the office.

A few minutes later, we were back inside my house. My stomach was grumbling, so the Yeerk popped a frozen dinner in the microwave.

When it was heated, the Yeerk made me eat it. I wasn’t paying attention. I was trying to figure out a way to warn the others. When I was finished eating, the Yeerk looked at my watch. 6:02.

Damn! They’d be here in half an hour.

The doorbell rang.

I opened it. "Come in." The three men walked in and I closed the door. "Visser Three, may the Kandrona shine and strengthen you."

< That’s Visser Three?> I asked.

< Have you forgotten that he can morph?> The Yeerk sneered.

"You as well," the man smiled.

"Shall we capture them all at once or one by one?" It was a confidant and arrogant version of my voice.

"All at once. I will not take any chances that they warn each other."

"Upstairs a good place to remain unseen."

"I presume they will not go up there?"

"I will see to it that they remain downstairs."

"Then it is suitable."

With that, the three men headed upstairs.

Four minutes later, the bell rang again. It was two girls and two guys. All seniors at my school. The Yeerk gave them their instructions.

At 6:14, a girl in my class and her older brother, Thomas, showed up. I shooed them up the stairs.

Chapter Eleven

Diiiing-Doooong

I peered out the window. It was Rachel. I opened they door. "Hi!"

< No! Get out of here! I’m a Controller!>

< They can’t hear you.> The Yeerk was obviously pleased with mocking me.

I wished so much that I could scream at her. Warn her.

Rachel walked in. "Hi, Amelia. Everyone else here yet?"

My mouth smiled. "Nah, you’re the first one. Want some chips?"

"Sure." Rachel grinned.

I walked over to the cabinets and pulled out a bag. We started munching on them.

Poor Rachel. She was in so much danger and she didn’t know it. She didn’t even suspect that her friend wasn’t her friend, or that this might be a trap.

The doorbell rang again. It was Jake and Marco. They immediately dove into the chips.

I realized just how easy it was for the Yeerks to take over Earth. How could anyone think something is wrong when a person acts almost exactly the same? Look at Rachel, she’s been my friend for years and she knows about the Yeerks, but not for a moment did she think anything is wrong.

There was a noise on the window. I walked over and saw three birds. I opened the window to let them in. They started demorphing.

< Your little band is all here now. It is over.>

< No.> Something boiled up inside me. I don’t know what it was. Rage, hatred, fear, or maybe all three. It was like a bomb, and I made it explode. For one split second, I had control of my body.

I look at Cassie straight in the eye. "Run." It was almost a whisper, but Cassie heard it.

I guess she saw something in my eyes, because she understood. She knew what I was trying to tell her. She knew what it took for me to warn her. She turned and ran.

But it was too late. The Yeerk was once again in control. "Now!" I screamed.

The Controllers ran down the stairs. One chased after Cassie, who had ran out the front door. The others surrounded us.

I backed away from the group and pulled a Dracon beam out of my pocket. "It’s over Animorphs. The battle has been fought and you have lost." I laughed cruelly.

< NOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!>

Visser Three looked at me. He was still in his human morph. "You are promoted to Visser Nine."

"Thank you Visser Three. Now you plans for this planet will be carried out without interference. You will become Visser One."

< Damn it! This can’t be happening! Oh, God! I wish I could go back. Go back and change the past. I’d do anything to change this.>

ANYTHING?

Chapter Twelve

Everything stopped. The room became frozen. No one was moving, or breathing. It was like time had stopped, for everyone but me. The Yeerk was no longer controlling me. I looked around for the person who had spoken.

Suddenly, the air opened up. The air began to form a person. Not human, but a humanoid.

"I am an Ellimist." He said in a real voice.

Ellimist? The one that sent us to the future?

"I am the same Ellimist."

"You can read my mind?"

"I have come with a proposition. I showed you your future, but you would not listen to my warning. The human race will soon become extinct. All that will be left are human-Controllers. I cannot interfere in the matters of other races. However, I will allow you to travel into the past. You will have twenty-four hours to do as you please. After that, you will forget everything that has occurred here. However, you will become a Human-Controller."

"I don’t have anything to lose. I’ll never remember?"

"Do you want to remember?"

"One day, when the Yeerk are gone from Earth."

"Then it shall be so. How far into the past do you want to travel?"

I thought about it. This whole thing had started when I went to the school at night with Laura to get her science book. Of course! If Laura didn’t forget her science book, this would never happen.

"Three days ago. When the bell rings for the end of school."

"Are you ready?"

I closed my eyes. "Do it."

Chapter Thirteen

When I opened them, I was in my last period class. Then the bell rang. I grab my books and headed towards my locker. I looked at my watch. 3:30, the day Laura forgot her science book. I grabbed my books and slammed my locker door. I dashed down the hall towards Laura’s locker.

She was just about to close it.

"Laura!"

"Amelia! Hi!"

"You want to walk home together?"

"Sure."

"Uh, did you remember your science book?"

"My science..."

"That big test tomorrow."

Her eyes widened. "Hey! Thanks for reminding me. I almost forgot." She grabbed the book and closed the locker door.

Epilogue

That is the end of my story. By this time tomorrow, I will remember nothing of these events. I will be a Controller. I hope that many will read these words and believe me. The Yeerks are here.

The End
