SITSS

Stuck In The Sixties Syndrome

The Web is just chock-full of disease pages. So why another page devoted to a seemingly incurable disease? Because, with your prayer, efforts and financial support, we believe we can turn the corner on this dreaded disease.

Dreaded disease?? What is SITSS?

SITSS is "Stuck In The Sixties Syndrome." Can you or a loved one answer "yes" to any of the following questions?

1) Think the Beatles were "more" than a musical group?

2) Think society was more caring in the 60's?

3) Get all misty eyed when they hear Scott MacKenzie singing "San Francisco" (Wear Some Flowers in Your Hair)

4) Remember when drugs were "righteous."

5) Smile condescendingly when anyone mentions "classic" songs of the 70's.

6) Remember when being involved in politics meant something other than being interested in a candidates sexual escapades.

7) Can't tell you why but claims "2001" made "sense."

8) Can tell you what they were doing the moment Armstrong set foot on the moon.

9) Has a hard time deciding if the 60's ended with Altamont or Kent State.

10) Still can't watch "Easy Rider" without walking out and looking for pickup trucks with gun racks.

11) Remember a good Stones album.

12) List Spock (the Vulcan NOT the Doctor) as one of his/her most influential people of the decade.

A "normal" person might remember or agree to one or two of the above but those stricken by SITSS ca answer each question, remember each example in excruciatingly long detail & fervently AGREE with all of the statements.

So. What can be done? Sadly, after all these years, we still don't have the answer.

Intervention & tough love seemed to be a possibility in the early '90's. The deprogramming (consisting solely of forcing the "afflicted" to watch hour after hour of Gomer Pyle U.S.M.C. reruns) left society loaded with psychologically scarred folks whose only refuge was joining the "militia" or the Christian Coalition.

Bad move.

We need to start moving ahead again. Do we really want people who identify with the title character of Jefferson Airplane's "Lather" (obscure reference: see "Crown of Creation" by Jefferson Airplane) making decisions that affect our lives? (see Bill Clinton or Rush Limbaugh)

No, SITSS is not a victimless disease. We're all affected.

Come on people, smile on your brother, everybody get together and send your tax deductible donations to:
