OK, this is gonna be a recap of scenes from "Irresistible", that made me feel, well, I don't have a name for that feeling, but I think you know what I'm talking about. OK, just a forewarning: "Irresistible" is my favorite episode, so I'm stating here and now that I'm very biased when this episode is concerned. Oh, yeah, I'm also a Scullyist (so you see why I loved this episode). Alright, let's begin, shall we -->> The Scully-is-quite-disturbed-atmosphere is created from the very beginning. She and Mulder are in Minnesota, looking into an open grave, which apparently shakes her usually cool exterior. Mulder shows his concern, even if it's only by asking her the usual "Are you Okay" (to which, I'm sure you all know the answer), but this is kind of a prologue for this episode - relationship speaking I'm not gonna mention the Vikings vs. Redskins game offer, since I don't make much of it. No date, nothing. (Editor's note: it *was* a date *grins*)
Moe Bocks (the Minneapolis agent in charge) calls back Mulder and Scully, disturbing them in the middle of the game (actually, Mulder was the one who seemed to have really minded). Scully looks at the dead bodies photos, and as if a wave of nausea comes over her, she leaves the room. Mulder looked after her, noting this. But when he comes out later, he just notifies her nonchalantly that they're staying. Not even an "Are you okay" now. There's another scene such as this, when they find the hooker's body, wrapped in blue satin. Mulder steps forward to inspect the body, while Scully stays behind. He looks back with a quizzical look, but her "I need a minute" probably settles it for him. Oh well, I'm not worried, the best is yet to come.

Fast forward some scenes, which include that VERY annoying mom, Scully's autopsy, the line-up, Donnie Pfaster's try to capture a new victim (who, may I say, looks very much like one of the "Ellen" cast), and also Scully's dream - which is one of the best scenes in this episode, in my opinion.
Mulder and Scully are in the jail. They've just finished interrogating a suspect and have found out he wasn't the one. We have here a very spooked Scully, spooked and disturbed. Not to mention psychic - as she feels Donnie's glare on her back. She wants to talk to Mulder in private, and gives Bocks that ever-so-Scullyishly-polite-face (oh, gosh, I've just created a hideous adjective). Anyway, from this scene on Mulder's behavior is great, in my opinion. He's not acting his usual flippant self, and instead he's being very sensitive (and isn't it what this is about?). He knows what is behind Scully's sudden going- back-to-DC. Weeeell, he doesn't know exactly, but he's getting close. And I thought it was very nice, the way he told her (after putting his hand on her shoulder): "I don't want you to think you have to hide anything from me, Scully." Very nicely said, but quietly refused by her, accompanied by a gentle pulling away from his touch. Awww! there's that nameless feeling I was talking about.
Next up is Scully's session with the FBI psychologist, Karen Kosseff. I'm just gonna quote a piece of that excellent scene, a piece that just says is all:
- Kosseff: Is it your partner? Is there a problem with trust -
- Scully (firmly): No. I trust him as much as anyone. I trust him with my life.
- Kosseff: Can you talk to him about the way you're feeling?
- Scully: No. (pauses) I know it sounds crazy, but I don't want him to know how much this is bothering me. I don't want him to think he has to protect me.
Afterwards Scully goes back to the FBI lab to get the results, and they found a print. She calls Mulder to let him know, and also to tell him she's going back to Minneapolis. She tells him: "...You can use my help.", to which he answers, with a very firm: "Always!".
The next scenes are very hectic. Scully gets thrown off the road by Pfaster, and is taken to his dead mom's (very) creepy house, so he can make his freezing baths fantasies come true. So, while that bath is turning quite bubbly, Mulder is pretty much in a climbing-the-walls state of mind. How could it be that no one has seen a "pretty woman being run off the road in her rental car". Yes, yes, that's a quote straight out of Mulder's mouth (errr, Chris Carter's keyboard, that is). He (Mulder, not CC) is very tenacious in trying to find Scully, which will sure happen, after all, the following week there's "Die Hand Die Verletzt".
In the meantime, Scully and Pfaster are having a very cool fight - including the rolling down the stares finale, and when they reach the floor, Mulder and the gang break in and save the day. The next scene is very famous (and also is the one that was the final step in my becoming an X-Phile), so if you don't mind, it'll be described in detail.
Mulder unties Scully's wrists while she keeps quietly saying "I'm fine, Mulder". She doesn't want to meet Mulder's eyes, so instead she looks at Donnie being bound on the floor. Mulder then tips up her chin, forcing her to meet his gaze, and that's all it takes. Tears well up in her eyes, and Mulder is putting his arms around her. She's with her arms crossed in front of her, at first, but then she lets her emotions take over, and embraces him back.
Fade out.
Ahh! I walked the next day with this powerful episode still reverberating in my mind. And personally, there hasn't been an episode that had the same effect on me since (but we've just started the 4th season here, so I don't know yet).
