Ensign Kaleb Luvill was born into the heart of the Bajoran resistance movement in 2352. Both of his parents were killed just weeks after his birth during a Cardassian raid and he was adopted by the survivors, who would soon form the violent Kitzmala resistance cell.

In 2363, the Kitzmala cell, low on morale and running out of options, took advantage of Kaleb's more than passing resemblance to the son of powerful Cardassian gul. In a desperate attempt, eleven-year-old Kaleb underwent surgery to alter his features and was substituted for the Cardassian boy in the hope that Kaleb might send back valuable information on the gul's movements. The mission was a failure, as Kaleb's true identity was discovered in less than a week. Fearful that he might continue to pass himself off as a Cardassian, authorities reversed the surgery and reverted Kaleb back to his Bajoran features. However, as punishment, his left eye was removed and he was sent back to the cell as an example and a warning to his fellow freedom fighters.

Abandoned by the Kitzmala cell, Kaleb was stumbled upon by a group of religious Bajoran pilgrims. One of them, a kindly man named Kobaan Shata, adopted Kaleb as his own. Kaleb devoted himself to studying the Prophets and remained with the group for three years before inexplicably renouncing religion in 2368 and breaking from the group. Disappointed, Kobaan granted his "son" the means for passage to Earth and an education upon his arrival.

Kaleb proved to be a quick study on Earth and an influential instructor secured him entrance to Starfleet Academy in 2370. While studying at the academy, Kaleb was "built" a new left eye by controversial Federation doctor Toby Russell. This eye contains tiny ocular implants that give Kaleb outstanding vision and a limited range of sensory information.

As graduation neared and Kaleb anticipated his first posting, he was approached by members of Section 31, a secret Starfleet organization specializing in both internal and external covert operations. Impressed with Kaleb's brief past history as a spy and his remarkable vision, the group asked Kaleb to join them. Intrigued, Kaleb became a Section 31 agent immediately after graduation in 2374 and served with them for three years, going on various undercover espionage assignments. In late-2377, citing loyalty to their cause but disagreement with their anarchical methods, Kaleb requested permission to leave the group. His removal was allowed on the conditions that he take an oath of silence and agree to return to them if they ever called on him.

Section 31 covered up Kaleb's involvement with them over those three years and arranged for him a posting to the U.S.S. Thunderchild, where he used his unique talents to become an exemplary Security officer. In early-2381, Kaleb was transferred to the U.S.S. Alliance, where he continues to work in the Security division.

Kaleb Luvill is 1.80 meters, (5' 11") tall and a trim 165 pounds. He is handsome and well- built with sandy brown hair and blue eyes (his left eye was carefully doctored to match his right, so only a close observer will notice the small ocular implants). He sports a short, stubbly beard. Kaleb refuses to wear a Bajoran ornamental earring, symbolic of his dissatisfaction with Bajoran religion. He dislikes his Bajoran first name of Luvill and insists that even his close friends call him Kaleb. He enjoys playing tennis, and he can often be found in the holodeck running an ongoing program in which he portrays a dashing World War I pilot. He is extremely likable, makes friends easily, and enjoys female companionship, but is generally content to sit back and not make the first move. Kaleb is currently 29-years-old.
