USS ALLIANCE
(Created by Jason Enelow)
(Extra)
Lucas Mallory is a half-Terran, half-Romulan, the son of Lord Veketh of Romulus and Lana Mallory of Earth. Lucas is approximately 6' 2", 1.88 meters tall, well-built, with jet-black hair and brown eyes. As a half-Romulan, he has pronounced Romulan ears, and considerable strength, greater than that of the average human.
Lucas was born into a high caste of Romulan society. His Romulan name is Keldek, and he inherited the title of Lord Veketh from his father as the first-born son of the family. However, he forsook his title and decided to adopt a human name when he joined Starfleet.
Lucas' father, Lord Veketh, has had a long and illustrious career, culminating in his current position in the Romulan High Council. His first command was on the Warbird Ladon, under whom several decisive victories against the Klingon Empire were won. Following his victory at Devora against the I.K.C. DevwI', he was promoted to Admiral, and later went on to serve in the Council. Lord Veketh's family is highly respected throughout the Empire for its honorable record of service, and he has considerable political influence. It is even rumored that he has connections in the Tal Shiar.
Lucas' mother, Lana Mallory, served for many years in the position of ambassador for the Federation. It was while she was assigned to the Romulan Empire, to negotiate a treaty altering Neutral Zone borders to ease tensions between the Romulans and the Federation, that she first met Lord Veketh. He was commanding the Warbird Ladon, and was ordered to escort Lana safely to the embassy on Remus. As a sign of courtesy, Lord Veketh invited the ambassador to dine in his quarters when she came on board. He was surprised by how much he enjoyed her company, and it appeared that they had more in common than he had realized. Subsequent time spent together proved this, and at his request, Lana extended her stay on Remus after the negotiations were complete. The two of them lived together for several years, during which time Lana bore a son they named Keldek. However, when Lucas was three and living on Romulus, Lana was called away on a diplomatic mission to negotiate a cease-fire between two warring factions on Junestus Prime. During the negotiations, Lana and three other diplomats were killed in a terrorist bombing at the embassy.
Lucas has only one sibling, a half-brother named Telvek. He is a full Romulan, son of Lord Veketh and Seval. Seval is currently serving as Subcommander, the rise to which position she made in an impressively short amount of time after meeting Lord Veketh, which was shortly after the death of Lana Mallory. It is speculated that her rise was not only greatly facilitated by Lord Veketh, but that he was the only factor which prevented her discommendation after several charges of insubordination.
Telvek himself is serving as a Subcommander, and inherited the title of Lord Veketh after his brother left the Romulan military. However, Telvek found that there was a stigma of disloyalty attached to his title, as the story of his elder brother is well-known. This has been a great obstacle to his advancement, and Telvek has had to work doubly hard to earn the respect that should have been his due as the son of a nobleman. Telvek feels that for his work, he should have made Commander by now. As a result, Telvek harbors a deep resentment towards his brother for his defection and for disgracing the family name.
For his first years in the Romulan fleet, Lucas Mallory served aboard the D'deridex-class Warbird Janalis as a helmsman. It was here that he gained much of his tactical experience, most of it in battle. However, many of his experiences in the Romulan fleet made him reconsider his path in life. Lucas saw around him that more of his people believed that the Empire was weakening, and that war with the Federation or the Klingon Empire was inevitable. Lucas decided that rather than stave off the Empire's collapse by guarding borders and watching their enemies, he would attempt to work for the best interests of the Empire through diplomatic means. He wrestled with his decision to join Starfleet for months before he finally presented it to his family. His father told him that he shared his view; that many members of the Council favored war to expand the Empire. As Lucas was of age, any such decision would have to be made by him alone. His brother, however, was less understanding, and was enraged by his brother's treason. Finally, Lucas decided that this was what he wanted, and was accepted to Starfleet Academy.
Lucas' first post was on board the U.S.S. Perseus as an Operations Officer under the command of Captain Petersen. He served here for three years before his transfer to the U.S.S. Alliance. In Starfleet, Lucas has found that while his Romulan heritage may separate him from his peers, he is beginning to fit in, and his vision of the future, both for the Federation and for the Romulan Empire, is shared by many.
