Tiro was born to Mia and Karo Matsushita in Yokohama, Japan. his mother's family (The Asamis) have been ship builders for generations. His father's family make and market computer systems and state of the art technical equipment world-wide.

Tiro grew up on the shores of Tokyo Bay. He developed a fascination with seagoing vessels and at an early age, decided that he would like to learn astral navigation in order to navigate the oceans of the world using only the stars as his guides. by the age of 13, he had become an excellent navigator and astral chart maker.

His under, Kaysu Asami, took Tiro on many ocean sailing adventures during Tiro's teen years. Kaysu also encouraged Tiro's interest in navigation and was the person who first suggested to Tiro that he might find a career in Starfleet to his liking.

At the age of 18, Tiro applied and was accepted to Starfleet Academy. He packed his bags, and with a bit of trepidation, set off on his first trip away from home without the support of his large and loving family. Tiro's family was dedicated to the preservation of ancient Japanese culture and had incorporated many of the old ways into their lives. Because of this, Tiro's first weeks at Starfleet Academy were very difficult for him. He had a very hard time adjusting to the Academy's way of life, but his mild nature and ease in making friends helped to pave the way for his eventual adjustment.

After four year at the Academy, Tiro graduated with honors. He received the "Mathematician's Medal" for his innovative work in astral navigational charting.

Upon graduation he received an immediate appointment to the USS Tian Nan Men where he served as a navigator for three years. His next three assignments were as flight control officers on board the Eagle, the Cairo, and the Bradbury.

Tiro received two promotions and became a full lieutenant six months after being assigned to the Cairo. While on the Bradbury, he heard that a new Galaxy Class Starship was being commissioned and having served as the Bradbury's chief Flight Control Officer for two years, he applied for the position of Chief CON Officer aboard the Endeavour. He was amazed and delighted when he was accepted for that position and eagerly made preparations to take on his new role aboard the Endeavour.

Tiro is likable, very approachable and makes friends quickly. He is optimistic and a good listener, which tends to make him an "unofficial" counselor and confidant for his friends. He enjoys sports, especially Parisses Squares and soccer. He plays Japanese flute and enjoys all forms of music. He is very interested in studying Japanese history and collects ancient Japanese maritime artifacts.

Tiro would secretly like to find a Japanese girl to settle down with. This desire comes from his devotion to keeping his culture and heritage alive. Although, should a non-oriental strike his fancy, he would not be completely opposed to a relationship.

He is a bit sensitive about his height and has thought about adding a few centimeters to his stature, artificially. he feels that he would have a greater command presence if he did so.

Tiro is a human make, 5' 7", 1.70 meters tall with straight black hair, cut long on top, cascading down on his forehead. He has dark, almond shaped eyes and is slight in stature. His features are decidedly Japanese, a fact that is a course of pride to him. He is single. Tiro was born in 2345.
