LIEUTENANT COMMANDER

MAXINE MORINGSTAR TAGGERT

CHIEF OF ENGINEERING

USS ALLIANCE

(Susan Hill)

Max was born Maxine Morningstar and grew up on tribal lands in the Dakotas surrounded by a large, loving, extended family. Her father, Jackson, is an environmental engineer and her mother, Lance, is a spiritual advisor. Her three brothers and two sisters all chose professions that kept them on their ancestral lands. But Maxine was different. She was the youngest and most restless of the Morningstar clan.

At age nine Maxine decided she wanted to see more of the world and tried every trick she knew to leave home. She climbed aboard and hid on shuttles, sonic trams, and even personal solar cycles. After a year of retrieving her from many points around the globe, her parents gave in and the family pooled their resources to send her to a boarding school in the Swiss Alps.

It was at the boarding school that her mechanical abilities first surfaced. Much to the staff's dismay, Max spent most of her free time dismantling food replicators, holographic duplicators, instructional storage pods, and almost any other device she could get her hands on.

Sometimes she would reassemble them just as they were, but other times she added her own modifications. One of her experiments included modifying a food replicator so that the food could be ordered by remote from anywhere in the room and then ejected to that point. Things went quite well with the solid food, but the liquids became pretty disastrous. Particularly, when persons not acquainted with the new modifications ordered food and had it promptly ejected into their faces!

Maxine's school counselor suggested that she apply to engineering school at the age of 13. After interviewing and testing she was accepted. While at the engineering school Max became fascinated with propulsion systems. She learned the basics about both impulse and warp propulsion and longed to work on some real engines. One of her instructor's recommended that she look into Starfleet Academy.

Max went to San Francisco and took an orientation class for prospective students. She met with some Starfleet cadets who were studying engineering. They described the Galaxy Class starships to her. These ships had a sustainable cruise velocity of Warp Factor 9.2 and could maintain speeds of Warp 9.6 for period up to twelve hours!! Maxine was hooked.

Maxine absorbed everything she could during her years as a Starfleet Cadet. She approached her studies in a very business-like manner and allowed little time for socializing. She had set her goal. She wanted to serve as an engineer aboard a Galaxy Class starship.

Upon graduation from the Academy, Max was assigned to the Utopia Planetia Fleetyards for three years. At first she was disappointed that she hadn't received a ship assignment, but it was explained t her that her years at the yards would be invaluable. While at the yards she gained further expertise in propulsion systems as she worked under Starfleet and civilian engineers who were designing and building propulsion systems for a new Galaxy Class starship which was destined to be completed in another 17 years.

It was while she was assigned to the yards that she met her future husband, Martin Taggert. Martin was a prominent mathematician who she worked closely with during the design stages of the propulsion systems. He was tall with black, curly hair and a lop-sided grin that melted her heart. He was soft spoken and intelligent and before she knew what was happening they were in love.

She was granted a 30 day leave to return to the Dakotas for the wedding. Martin's family shuttled in from Alaska. The wedding took place out doors. Maxine wore a ceremonial wedding dress and Martin dressed in a royal blue body suit that matched the color of his eyes.

A year after their marriage, he twins Jared and Joseph were born. Two years after their marriage, Max go her first ship assignment. The ship was the Ambassador Class, USS Pathfinder. Martin singed up to serve as a mathematics consultant and higher mathematics instructor for students and crew aboard the ship. They lived aboard the Pathfinder for six years. It became their home.

While on the Pathfinder , Ensign Maxine Taggert served as a Propulsion Specialist. She also acquainted herself with all of the other components in the Engineering Dept. During her fifth year of service aboard the Pathfinder she was promoted to Lieutenant and was made the Chief Engineer's Assistant.

Her time board the Pathfinder had turned her into a seasoned Engineer. She had repaired damages after her ship had been fired upon, helped deal with a threatened warp core breech, and learned the tricks of coaxing life back into sluggish engines.

Upon nearing the end of her sixth year aboard the Pathfinder, she was called into Captain Storer's Ready Room. There she was told that she was being given the choice of two assignments. She could either take over as Chief Engineer on the Pathfinder, as the present chief was being reassigned, or she could take a position as Assistant to the Chief Engineer on the Enterprise for its exploratory mission into the Gamma Quadrant. The Enterprise was leaving DS9 in four days and their Engineering Dept. was short staffed. She was given 24 hours to make her decision.

It was hard for her, Martin and the boys to leave their friends aboard the Pathfinder, but there really was no decision to be made. Her dreams were coming true. She was going to serve aboard a Galaxy Class ship! The family packed all of their possessions and beamed aboard the Enterprise just two hours before it left DS9.

During her service on the Enterprise Maxine became the Chief of Engineering and was promoted to Lieutenant Commander. However, her dream mission was cut short when during an alien attack, the Enterprise was damaged and was ordered back to DS9 for repairs and refitting.

While being towed back to DS9 a subspace communiqué was received on board the Enterprise. A brand new Galaxy Class Starship, the USS Endeavour was being staffed for it's first mission into the Alpha Quadrant. Starfleet was accepting requests for immediate transfer. Maxine applied for the position of Chief of Engineering for transfer to the Endeavour. After serving for 2 years, she was transferred to the USS Alliance, a Universal Class ship.

Maxine is a human female, married with twin sons. She is 5' 8", 1.73 meters tall with shoulder length black hair and dark eyes, with bronzed colored skin.
