DEEP SPACE 13
Hira Lal was born in India and lived there until he
was eight. His father,
having decided to become a Buddhist monk, left his
family when Hira Lal was
seven. His mother moved to America a year later to
live with her
brother's family in Oregon. His uncle insisted on
sending his four
children to Starfleet academy and tried to persuade
Hira Lal to do the same.
Ignoring his uncle's advice, Hira Lal moved out on
his own when he was
seventeen (his mother remarried at that time and he
didn't like his
step-father). He got a job with a shipping company
and moved to different
space ports whenever he had the chance. At twenty-five
he watched a
co-worker die in a freak accident involving a freight-loader.
Hira Lal quit
his job that day and became a waiter -- still moving
from one job to
another, going from space ports to starbases to planets.
Hira Lal currently works for K'Larla Tauzik in the
Bristol Dreams
coffee shop on DS13. He is good-natured and enjoys
talking to regular
customers and travelers alike. When not working he
enjoys swimming, rock
climbing, and acting in the station's amateur theater
guild.
