Gettys, a kind, patient woman who invariably reminds everyone of a favorite aunt, has worked as a counselor for seven years. She began her career as the Academy's personal counselor and served there for six years. Unmarried and having few ties to Earth, she took the posting aboard the Potsdam on a whim and enjoyed working there for just over year. Hoping that another gamble will turn good, she joins the DS13 crew with boundless expectations.

Gettys is very compassionate and sympathetic - qualities which aid her more in her work than any of the courses she took in college. She is comfortable around people and has a natural instinct in handling awkward situations and emotions. Though competent in her work, she is often scatterbrained in the rest of her life. She is forever misplacing things and forgetting details such as dates, meeting times, and locations. Readily lost and easily flustered, Gettys often relies on the kindness of strangers to get through the day. This bit of clumsiness does nothing to hamper her confidence though, and her humor and optimistic personality win her many friends.
