When you have a decision to make and you are not sure what to do, you need to use two things, your intellect and your intuition. Most people only use the intellect and sometimes don't make the best decisions. For instance, consider this story:
A man wanted to buy a new and bigger house. He first used his intellect and checked out many things. He checked out the price, the house itself, the neighborhood, his finances, and since he had just received a big promotion, he knew that he could afford the house. Everything seemed to point to him buying the house.
This was as far as his intellect could take him. Sometimes, using your intellect is enough, but sometimes as you will see, it just isn't enough to make the best decisions.
Everything appeared to be a go-ahead for buying the house, although he did have a somewhat negative feeling about it. (This should have been a red flag to him!) However, like a lot of us, he thought it was just normal anxiety about buying something so expensive. Also like many of us, he put this negative feeling out of his mind and bought the house anyway.
About six months later, the company he worked for ran into some financial trouble and had to lay people off. To avoid losing his job, this man had to take a severe pay cut and as a result was not able to meet his monthly mortgage payments and lost his new house.
If this man had explored the negative feelings he had about buying the house, he would have saved himself a lot of financial problems and would still own the house he had to sell in order to buy the newer, larger one.
What he could have done when he realized he was having negative feelings about buying the house was to meditate on these feelings, asking his higher self, or God, (whichever term you prefer to use), just what was the best for him at that time.
If he had done these things, and been truly honest with himself about his negative feelings, and respected those feelings, he would not have bought the house in the first place. He would have saved himself the loss of his first house along with all the anxiety that goes along with financial worries.
When you have a decision to make, use your intellect and check out all the things you can, but remember, intellect can only take you so far. It does not see far enough into the future as intuition does.
Intuition taps into a higher part of yourself, your higher consciousness which can see far into the future. You may want to refer to this higher consciousness as God, or the Universe, (or whatever term you feel comfortable with). Both are correct terms, as God is in everyone and everything. Terms are not important, just so you get the idea.
When getting in touch with the intuitive part of yourself, go to a quiet place by yourself, quiet your body and your mind, as best you can. This will be difficult at first because your mind will constantly wander. Practice will calm your mind and enable you to quiet your thoughts. After you have calmed your body and mind, ask yourself if this is the best decision for you at this time.
First, think to yourself, yes, it is the right decision. Visualize yourself going through with the decision. Notice how you feel. Do you feel positive? Negative? Now, think to yourself, no, it is not the right decision for me at this time. Visualize yourself going though with your decision this way. How do you feel now? Positive or negative? You will feel more so one way or the other. Once you have decided how you feel, you will know which decision is right for you at that particular time.
This is not playing a hunch. There is a difference between a hunch and intuition. A hunch is a feeling that may or may not be correct. It is more like guessing. Intuition goes much deeper and comes from a higher source than hunches. Although intuition manifests as a feeling too, it is a much stronger one. It takes practice to know which is a hunch and which is intuition. However, practice makes perfect!
Intuition as mentioned before, comes from a higher consciousness than the one you normally use for everyday living. Intuition is never wrong, although it may take time to know that the decision you made while using intuition was right.
Sometimes things don't work out the way we thought they should and we think, "Boy! Did I make a wrong decision!" But then later we realize that the decision we thought was wrong at the time, was the right one all along!
Once you learn to depend on intuition, you will make
more and more right decisions for yourself and in turn will be much happier!
