Destiny's Actor of the Season Award

Okay, okay, I know I haven't updated this page in ages.  Sorry!

About the Award

What makes a great actor? Is it their dedication to their work? A consistent performance? Or perhaps it is one riveting performance that brings tears to the audience's eyes? It seems to be an enigmatic quality that is hard to capture, but every so often, there is a performance that will just take one's breath away.
There are far too many actors whose work goes unrecognised, and this is the philosophy behind Destiny's Award. The award showcases one actor for each "season" of the year (a season being summer, spring etc), or whenever I actually decide that an actor is worthy.

Current winner!
Claudia Christian

No one can kick-ass like Commander Susan Ivanova from "Babylon 5".  Claudia's character is constantly dynamic, realistic, and the type of person you know would never let you down.  From the straight out humor ("I'm very sorry, sir...." - that hilarious airlock sequence) to a touching deathbed monologue, there is no doubt why Ivanova remains one of "Babylon 5's" most popular characters.
When I saw "Rising Star" for the first time, I was literally astounded by THAT scene and the emotion that came through.  I never thought I'd see Ivanova lose control.  It was an amazing piece of talented acting to witness, and I cried for Ivanova.
This wonderful character wouldn't be possible without Claudia's amazing input and performance.  (Yes, I know she left under sad circumstances but that doesn't make any difference.)  I also had the pleasure of seeing her at a convention - "I'm not bitter!" was the catchcry of this great lady.

Previous Winners

Sigourney Weaver
After seeing Alien Resurrection I am again reminded of one of the greatest space heroes ever, Ellen Ripley played by none other than the talented Sigourney Weaver. In the latest Aliens film Ripley is at her most intense ever. The combination of alien and human - Ripley's struggle with her own identity ("I died") makes compelling viewing. Who will ever forget the sequence with the "Chamber of Cloned Horrors"? The latest film (despite its questionable merits) undoubtably showcases what a brilliant actress Ms Weaver is.

Kate Mulgrew
Kate Mulgrew from Star Trek : Voyager wins this time! Never have I seen a more dedicated, or believable actor in every scene she graces. She is an inspiration to women around the world with her portrayal of Captain Kathryn Janeway. Even with the dreaded scripts of season 2, Kate Mulgrew still managed to make an impact.

Sabrina Lloyd
Sabrina Lloyd of Sliders fame is a brilliant actress who is all too often ignored. Her poignant portrayal of Wade Welles in the season 3 episodes from "The Exodus" onwards brought tears in the eyes of thousands of viewers. We can only hope that Sabrina keeps on sliding for a long time to come!
