Devon Alone - a summary.

Devon Adair tries to get Eden Project going, but it is rejected
time after time.

Ulysses Adair, age 8, dies.

John Danziger and Kassidy Quinn allow their minds to be copied
experimentally. (It means $$$ for them, they are both in debt and
need as much money as possible.)

Devon is still determined to lead EP - runs a campaign, working for
Uly's memory, and then her interest is taken in another direction.
She discovers that the Council is aiming for total control of the
stations - and part of this is the rejection of EP. The other part
is more frightening.

The Council is systematically removing people who they consider a
danger to their power and replacing them with Replicas. Devon
learns this, and is targeted.

She writes a message telling everything to Yale. Hidden within the
station computers, the message will transmit once Devon is recorded
as dead.

Devon sneaks into the Council offices for proof of the plot but is
caught by the President and his associates. And rather than kill
her, Devon is Replicated. This means that the *true* Devon Adair
was murdered, and a clone was given her memories to replace her in
society. The real Devon's body was stored in an "ice-chamber"
along with other bodies that have been stored for dire purposes of
the Council (eg they hope to resurrect people from the dead when
the technology becomes available...).

Replicas have wires in their brains and can be controlled by
Council members.

However, the replica Devon is still extremely dangerous and
unstable; and with the memory of Uly's death haunting her, vows to
save other children struck by the Syndrome. Despite their best
efforts, the Council cannot completely control her. So they offer
her the chance to enter the Program. Devon is told that Eden
Project could be reactivated, if the Program (a test run) goes
well. (Devon 2 doesn't know that she's a Replica - the memory is
not clear and she has suppressed the feelings given to her by Devon
1.)

The Program is a simulation of planet G889; with personalities
incorporated from the Council's database (ie these are almost
'real' people in the Program). Personalities copied in are:
Uly, Danziger, Yale, Alonzo, Morgan (the latter 2 never knew their
minds were copied) and Kassidy (as Bess). Julia and True are
invented, True from Danziger's mind (his *real* daughter True was
quite different from the one on G889), Julia as a pet project of
Blalock. Uly came from Devon's mind, Yale was a standard unit
design (his later memories were also programmed by Blalock).

Devon 2 (on the Stations) shuns Yale's company (due to Council
influence and her own grief over Uly) and enters the Program. From
that moment, she ceased to recall the fact that G889 was a
simulation (due to an illegal drug continually given to her by
Blalock).

Danziger and Kassidy (his wife by now) become members of the
Resistance, and underground organisation dedicated to opposing
totalitarian control, classes in society, and the Council.

...Events as seen in "Earth 2"...

Devon is brought out of the Program by Blalock because of financial
constraints, the power drain etc.

The Council now can dispose of Devon Adair without causing a huge
fuss (she is no longer famous and in a powerful position).
However, Devon still proves to be strong and an adversary,
especially to Blalock as she fights against the injustice done to
her. (All Devon knows is that she was tricked into believing the
Program was real.)

Devon seeks out the people she knew in the Program, looking for
friends. Yale is cold and distant, due to her rejection of him a
year earlier (the Replica Devon who was being Council-manipulated).

Devon takes revenge on Blalock, and gets them both into trouble.
Blalock begins a personal vendetta against Devon, but can't do too
much because his career is on the line.

With Morgan Martin's help, Devon buys the Program so that it can't
be used on unsuspecting people again. (Of course the Council still
has a copy.)

Devon discovers Danziger and pursues him. The Council is still
hoping to get rid of Devon once and for all. Using the implanted
circuitry in Devon's mind, the Council proceeds to heighten her
sense of love for John Danziger and it becomes Devon's obsession.

Morgan is intrigued by Devon Adair as he hides from the evil powers
above him. He investigates her case and his position (and life) is
threatened. Yet after meeting Kassidy (Danziger's wife, Bess) he
continues to take an interest in the situation, which now
encompasses Devon, Danziger, Kassidy and the Resistance against the
Council.

Blalock, as 'punishment' for his actions regarding Devon Adair, is
Replicated.

Devon apparently throws herself out of an airlock when Danziger
rejects her. The Council believes this - all security recordings
support this theory - and Devon's life-signs (from the implanted
circuitry in her head) have ceased. A death notice is
automatically placed in her file; although the body is not
recovered.

What really happened : Devon suddenly remembered (kind of) that
she was a Replica and decided she didn't deserve to live on the
Stations where she had nothing. So she plugs herself into the
Program - the electrical jolt destroying most of the circuitry in
her head, hence the automatic death recording. The message the
original Devon wrote two years ago is sent to Yale - this includes
vital information about Replicas and the Council plot, information
vital to the growing Resistance. The clone-Devon sent a message to
Danziger just before entering the program.

Danziger finds that, despite her oddities, he misses Devon a hell
of a lot. He sets out to find her but cannot, so he contacts Yale.
He discovers that she is dead and rages against it, beginning his
own investigation along with Yale. They discover that *something*
about the circumstances is not quite right.

Together, they view Devon's body and discover it has been there for
over two years. While it was the *real* Devon Adair's body, it
wasn't the body of the woman they recently knew.

Yale is arrested for being a Yale-unit (the official reason) and
pursuing the problem of Devon Adair (the unofficial reason).

Danziger can find no trace of Devon 2, so he, Kassidy and Morgan
hold a funeral.

But for some reason, Danziger keeps looking.

Devon, in the Program, begins to unravel her repressed memories of
being Replicated (the Terrians show her this) but still tells
herself that G889 is real. She doesn't want to face the truth.

The real Danziger finds Devon in the Program and programs himself
to be his character. He doesn't recognise True - the VR True looks
different to his real daughter on the stations.

Danziger convinces Devon to leave VR and live on the stations -
with him. And finally, she accepts the truth of being a clone, but
is prepared to stop blaming her circumstances and truly start to
live again.

Danziger, Devon and Kassidy, along with the help of the Resistance,
overthrow the Council.

They eventually get together, as do Morgan and Kassidy (but this
isn't shown in the saga!) Devon and Danziger have a baby.

And everyone lives happily ever after, as they *finally* head out
to the real G889. :)
