Basic Starship Trooper P-T Uniform Page
Start off with a black T-shirt or sweatshirt...
We have a graphic for use in making a stencil to use with your black T- or Tank and Sweat shirts for Mobile Infantry
Read all the directions before starting!
(NOTE:-the Fleet graphic is different, and we will be working on a graphic for those who wish to do fleet)
Copy the graphic to your machine, then open it offline.
The graphic will appear large on your screen, it should print to about 23 cm wing tip to wing tip
Print or copy onto Card stock, or transparency film, and then get out your X-acto (c) knife!
Use a straight edge to make the cuts (I know the scanned edges look choppy, but the straight edge helps)
Cut away the white areas in the design, and use White fabric paint from the crafts store
This image shows the print out, with cleaned up edges, the stencil made from overhead acetate (the white blob is an area for mixing the paint with the fabric medium), the stiff brush, and cardboard to back the shirt.
Follow the instructions for use that come with the fabric paint, except,
use a short stiff brush (or a stencil brush) and work the paint exactly like using a stencil,
moving the brush up and down, not side to side
The action is one of tapping the paint into the fabric from above.
Be sure you have a piece of cardboard inside the shirt, between the front and back
Important:
Clip tape or pin the edges of everything
I use a stapler to tack the shirt to the cardboad-do not crimp the staples) We have also found that a 'removable' spray adhesive, available from graphics stores for about $3/can, makes for clean edges. Use the spray on the back of the stencil, and press all the edges to the fabric.
The dagger handle is the Bottom of the design
Here is a painted shirt, with the stencil. Follow instructions on paint for drying and heat setting.
For the authenticity folks:
the movie shows this graphic only on the black sweatshirts, and the tank tops.
Also, the T-shirts (short sleeved) in the movie are plain black with Raglan sleeves
(for those who don't understand, that is the angle cut sleeve, like on a sweatshirt)
We will be putting the graphic onto regular black short sleeve T-shirts
Make two or three light coats of paint to prevent bleed under at the lines
Put the top edge of the design about 3-inches down from the neck line, and center it on the shirt
you might want to practice on a scrap of fabric first
