LIEUTENANT COMMANDER

JAIR ANIS

CHIEF SCIENCE OFFICER

USS EXPLORER

(Kat North)

Age: 30 Female Human

Height: 1.68 meters (5’6”)

Hair: ginger brown, naturally curly and long, usually plaited in a single braid, bangs

Eyes: brown

Notes on Service record: Specialized in xeno-biology and xeno-zoology in Starfleet Academy. Upon graduation, Jair was assigned by special request of her mentor and friend, Professor David Crossings, to a special research team that was cataloging life forms in a newly discovered system of planets on the outer edges of the quadrant. She spent 5 years doing planetary fieldwork in that system.

One planet in the system, designated Dykar, had unusually high electrical fields that had created an environment for highly specialized and unique life forms. However, the nature of predators, the dangerous environment to humans, and the electrical interference to equipment made an in-depth study nearly impossible. Jair Anis developed a special encompassing suit, with the help of engineer Ensign Matt McDaniels, that masked all bio-electrical impulses, allowing a team to remain undetected by predators and to begin observations. Jair volunteered for dangerous duty and was one of the three assigned to the team. Her promotion to Lieutenant soon followed. Study of Dykar was terminated when the lead proponent of the mission, Professor David Crossings, was killed during an electrical storm on planet. One of the unusual species observed and studied on Dykar, was a simian primate (classified non-sentient, and non-threatening). Jair was given permission when the field study ended to take one of the young females of the species and keep it for further observation and study.

Lt. Anis was next posted to the USS Intrepid as one of the exobiology science officers, one of the few humans ever to be assigned to the Vulcan exploration vessel. After serving four years on the Vulcan science vessel, Jair received scientific honors for her comparative studies in bioelectrical systems of several interplanetary species and eventual breakthrough in the understanding of subvocal communication by the Braithian Bears of the Braith arctic, planet Ventax II. A promotion to Lt. Comdr. subsequently followed. (See Inter-Science Journal issue 09087.A, p.171-80 for complete reference to published paper.)

Personal History- Jair was born the only child of two very busy, career-oriented scientists, Dr. Jared Anis and Professor Aileen Richards. Because of her loneliness as a child she often turned to animals for affection and amusement. Her natural inclination towards science never lured her far from her love of all animals and nature.

Even for Jair, used to emotional isolation from birth, serving on the Intrepid for a little over four years has been hard. The position of Veterinarian on the USS Explorer may seem a little out of her field, but she knows she needs the contact with humans while still being able to satisfy her driving love of exploration and science.

Jair enjoys music, animals (all sorts), playing the drums (all sorts, but especially the Irish bohdra), collecting ancient musical instruments from all over the system, rock climbing, and crocheting.
