ABC(3/05/01 21:01:44) Boat carrying refugees missing in Indonesia Port officials in Indonesia say a boat carrying 107 refugees back to North Maluku has been missing at sea for two days. The 'Anugerah' left Ternate island near Halmahera on Tuesday, together with two other boats, heading for Loloda sub-district. The Ternate Port Authority says the missing boat was carrying refugees home to two villages in Loloda, 100 kilometers to the north of Halmahera island. It says the boat left without the proper documents, but was allowed to proceed because of the humanitarian nature of its journey. North Maluku Governor Muhyi Effendi says the navy has deployed a patrol boat to help search for the boat while the army is providing a helicopter and several speedboats to comb the coastline between Ternate and Loloda. Most of the refugees had been in Ternate for more than one year after fleeing violent clashes between Christians and Muslims on Halmahera.
