OGW Magick Circles

"We are a circle, within a circle, with no beginning...and never ending"

The lines above are a chant that wiccans use within some magick circles. The words describe the group or coven as a circle. The chant also states the existance of the circle glyph which surrounds the group.
The importance of the circle is its symbology to the mind. Life on Earth is a circle. The Planet itself is circular, but more accurately is an elipse. Her orbit around the Sun is eliptical as well. Both the circle and the elipse are related.

Sacred Space

The wiccan magick circle begins with the creation of sacred space. This is the marked location of the boundry between the worlds. The chosen area of the physical world is traditionally 'swept' with a broom. The participants are told by either the priestess or the person sweeping that first, positive energy will be swept into the area, followed by the sweeping away of negativity. This initial physical act begins the connection between the physical and spiritual realms; the body and the mind. The circle is then cast with the Athame or ritual blade/ sword. Then, the line that was defined by the blade is censed with the Censor or smoldering stick. The line is finally sprinkled with charged or consecrated water. These actions complete the creation of sacred space. The temple is now defined both on the physical and mental plane. The rest of the Erecting the Temple procedure is of spiritual application. The magick circle is both a barrier against unwanted energies, and a container within which the manifestation can take place.
The creation of the magick circle is elementally aligned. The tools that were used are symbolic of the physical elements. The Path of the GateKeeper defines the symbology as:
ATHAME=AIR
CENSOR=FIRE
CUP or CHALICE=WATER
The Finished Product of the Circle=EARTH
