Ted sends....
I have been searching for something in my life and I feel Wicca is it. I have a little problem though. I can't get any books. I am only fifteen, and my parents are very strict. The libraries have little information here. I have sent off for some snail mail catalogs. My mom doesn't give them to me when they come. I have gone to many sites on the web and they all say buy the books. What can I do? I am not sure I understand deity. I keep getting mixed messages. Can you explain this to me?

White Owl says to Ted....
Read books on mythology, British history, the Kabbalah, comparative religion, and novels like The Mists of Avalon, The Forest House (both by Marion Zimmer-Bradley), the Once and Future King, Mary Stewart wrote some books about the myths of King Arthur and Camelot, The Tolkein Trilogy and The Hobbit, Omega by Stewart Farrar, The White Goddess by Robert Graves, The Wasteland by T.S. Elliot(an epic poem), and books by Richard Bach. It's not a good idea to go against the ideas of your parents. They want the best and safest life for you. You will have plenty of time to read the books about the craft when you are older. all of this will give you a good base of understanding.

Persephone also replied to Ted....
Diety IS very hard to explain. I'd write: You're doing the right thing by deciding to read about something before you choose it as a religion. I know your parents might object to popular paperback books with pictures of pentacles and cauldrons on the covers... but did you try the reference section in your library? Most parents will hardly object to you spending a few hours looking around in the library. If you bring home history books that talk about the Witch Trials and Burnings to see what life was like for people who practiced the craft; or literature books such as Greek Mythology or Celtic Mythology to get to know the gods and goddesses that pagans observe. These books are the kinds of things parents like their kids to read, but more importantly you'll learn so very much more. (and its free) And if your parents still don't go for the books then talk you your English teacher about witchy topics for your next paper or report. There are tons of witches in literature.

Jamie's query.....
I have a few ?'s but the main one is ....What's the difference between a witch and a warlock? OK and some others...Is there anyway possible to talk to one specific dead person without an ouija board or having to hold a seance? And now my last ? Is it possible to steal someone's soul, I have been threatened that's why I ask...

Drakos has these responses....
1) The difference between a Witch and Warlock- In some uninformed circles (comic books mostly) a Warlock is a male Witch. However in the real world- A Witch is a practitioner of the 'Craft of the Wise', it was perverted from Wicce (meaning wise) to Witch. Warlock means 'oath-breaker' in Scottish. One would be ill advised to call someone an oath-breaker! 2) Speaking to the dead, it depends on what you consider a seance. If you mean a group of people sitting around a table and making it rise, then yes, there is. If you mean a ritual for contacting the dead, then no. You can call the spirit of a dead person in a magically warded circle. Hallowe'en is a good time for such practice. 3) Finally, no, you can't lose your soul. That is the threat of a fool.

Santiago writes.....
I am very interested in wiccan practices and magick. However, I do not seem able to meditate. Is this a problem, and if so, can you please suggest some way of meditation to me? Is it possible to practice magick without meditation?

Lady Cassandra replies to Santiago....
Meditation is soooo easy. We make it seem like it is so hard. First you need to consider some myths...Great and powerful messages boom out of the great unknown, One must sit in the lotus position, stock still with the spine straight in perfect still and quietness or with the appropriate meditative music with a candle burning, the visions will come. All of that are possibilities but not the only ways. One thing to do is just sit or lie in quietness with or without music, candles, incense and reflect on your thoughts or lack of thoughts. Some people find that dance, yoga, taichi, running, boating etc. is meditative. If you want to be structured about it you can add position, music, candles. Start with some deep cleansing breaths. Breathe in to 5, hold for 2, out to 5. Start at your toes, tighten and relax. Do this with every part of your body. Now you should feel very relaxed. At this point you can be reflective or you can imagine a scene, colors, perhaps energy coming into each chakra. It is important to use your imagine and create your own visions. The more your exercise your imagination the more likely you will tap into the valuable information which you hold within. I like to imagine that I am floating in the starry sky. I also created a forest scene were I go and talk to the creatures there.
Good visioning,
Lady Cassandra

Toni tells Santiago.....
I don't know that you really have to meditate, but it definitely helps as far as being able to visualize, which is an integral part of magic. The best way I've found to meditate (for me anyway) is to breath to the count of my heart beat. Try breathing for 4 beats, then increase it by a few beats every few minutes. The slow breathing relaxes you while the counting and listening distracts your mind long enough for your body to relax fully. And if thoughts do pop into your head let them just zing by like channel surfing. Don't stop and think about work or whatever. Have you read about meditation or ever taken yoga? You might try looking for a meditation news group.
