Do the terms FAITH and SCIENCE contradict one another ? Many believe that they do. What are the differences between the two ?
Faith has been given a definition of a religious or spiritual nature. Our christian friends(?) say that it is "..the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things unseen." To my mind, evidence and hope are a contradiction. Evidence is a scientific term. Hope is a term of desire. Faith in the christian form, is christian magick. In this form, faith is the mechanisim which sets the mind in motion for the materialization of that which is prayed-for.
In mundane application, faith is defined as 'trust' or 'loyality.' It is the belief factor, and a display of confidence. This kind of faith is not blind. Faith as a badge of trust is a result of previous actions or feelings, derived from experience. This is where faith and science come together.
SCIENCE is a method of proof through trial and evidence. The method examines factual, material information. Belief is derived through study. The idea of adopting a belief system without careful prior observatory study is a dangereous practice. Science exists to prove theories and ideas, and to quest for the truth. Once again, science is simply defined as . study with application.
'Experience' is a personal term. Experience is not an act of faith, but of science. Experience can be proven through demonstration alone. Faith then, can be a result of experience. FAITH is then aptly defined as "belief in the experience of another." SCIENCE then, is "belief through your own experience."
