Charles Darwin (1809-1882)

An Amateur's Comments

The two books of Darwin contained in the Great Books of the Western World collection are The Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection(1859) and The Descent of Man and Selection in Relation to Sex(1871). Together, in normal print, these works would be about 1200-1300 pages long. Darwin is exceptionally detailed in his descriptions of natural phenomena. I personally enjoyed Irving Stone's biographical novel, The Origin. Someone who is more scientific by nature would do well to read Darwin's original works.
