God's Own Special Children, ... Thoughts on Disability

Did you know that there are 3.23 crores of persons with disabilities in India?

This means for every thousand persons there are 33 people who have disabilities.

Can you spare a few moments to examine what you see, feel, when you think of a person with a disability?

Do you see someone who is lame, cripple, blind, deaf?

Do you feel pity? or uncomfortable? Or even repulsed?

If you see and feel NONE OF THIS then you are already our friend.

If you see and feel ALL OR SOME OF THIS, we would still like you to be our friend

And we would like to tell you a little bit about how we like to be seen or thought about:

Instead of .............................................................................Use

Crippled, lame .......................................................................................Person with Disability

Deaf .....................................................................................................Hearing impaired

Blind ....................................................................................................Visually impaired

Spastic .................................................................................................Cerebral palsy

Retarded ..............................................................................................Development disability

Wheel chair bound ...............................................................................Wheel chair user

Polio stricken, victim ............................................................................Person with polio

We are Persons with dignity. Yes we have a disability. But, we have many abilities too.

JUST THINK ABOUT IT.

What is it like to be a person with disability?

Try to imagine a scene where you are eager and impatient to get to some place. And you cannot, only because you do not have any means of getting there. No cycles, no cars, no buses, nothing.

Or worse, simply because you do not have shoes! Sounds ridiculous?

Well, such scenes take place in the lives of thousands of persons with disability ... each day. They are not mobile ... not because of their disability, but because they do not have the means to be mobile. They do not have callipers or crutches or wheel chairs.

Did you know that in India only 2% of all people with disability have any kind of aid or appliance?

People with disability need MOBILITY.

What can you do? How can you make a difference? How can you pitch in?

JUST THINK ABOUT IT.

December 3rd is International Day of Disabled Persons.

Thought for the Day:" Blessed are you poor, For yours is the kingdom of God. Blessed are you who hunger now, For you shall be filled. Blessed are you who weep now, For you shall laugh. Blessed are you when men hate you, And when they exclude you, And revile you, and cast out your name as evil, For the Son of Man's sake. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy! For indeed your reward is great in heaven, Fon in the manner their fathers did to the prophets. But woe to you who are rich, For you have received your consolation. Woe to you who are full, For you shall hunger. Woe to you who laugh now, For you shall mourn and weep. Woe to you when all men speak well of you, For so did they fathers to the false prophets." Holy Bible: Luke 6:20-26
