EARLY-Funeral services were
held Thursday for James Clarence
Maxson who passed away at his
home Tuesday forenoon,April 1,
1941, after an extended illness.
Short services were held at the
home at one o'clock and at the
Methodist Church at 1:30 p.m.;
conducted by Rev. W.N.Baker,
pastor. Interment was made in the
Early cemetery.
James Clarence Maxson,son
of William and Lottie Maxson,
was born near Shellsburg,Benton
County, Iowa,June 1,1872,aged
68 years and 10 months. When he
was seven years of age he went
with his parents to South Dakota
where they made their home for 13
years. Later they moved to Sac
City and later on was employed by
the Chicago North Western Rail-
road Co.,as a section foreman for
one year. He then was transferred
to early where he continued his
work for the railroad company for
17 years when ill health obliged
him to cease his labors for awhile.
Later on he was appointed town
marshall, but after two years of sat-
isfactory service, he was again
obliged to give up his work. About
8 years ago he suffered a stroke
from which he never rallied. Mr.
Maxson was affilated with the
Baptist Church in his early life
and was always a faithful and con-
sistent member.
After coming to Early he at-
tended the Methodist Church and
about a year ago he transferred his
membership to that denomination
and took much interest in the work
as long as he was able to attend.
He was united in marriage to
Miss Minnie Van Vleet of Sac
City on March 8,1897, and to this
union five chlldren were born. The
eldest son, William, was drowned
at Newell,S.D., seven years ago;
Floyd E. at home, Uberto,Sac City,
Gladys,(Mrs. Harold Davis) and
Pearl (Mrs. Howard Miller) both
of Sac City. He is survived by his
wife , the above children, 27 grand-
children, one brother,John Max-
son of Jolley and one sister
Mrs. T.J.Thompson of Danville,Ill.
His parents, one sister and a twin
brother preceded him in death. For
the past year illness has confined
him closely to his home.
Pall bearers were Beryl Baker,
James Baker, Webb Simpson, Les-
lie Haradon,Charles DeGarmo and
Roy Merrimen. Sympathy is ex-
tended to the bereaved family.
