Comfort

This one was written, as many of my poems are, during a time of stress. I tend to turn to the pen for God's help when life begins to beat down on me. This one turned into a praise of healing for me, as I tend too often to be a pessimist about my situation in life.

Comfort

In my darkest hour you held me,
In my darkest night you led me,
I was blind in a world without hope,
Then you were there.
I never asked you to share,
I never asked you to care,
In the midst of my hardship,
You comforted me.

A whisper in time,
A hollowed place,
A sweet little rhyme,
A ripple in space,
A little clock's chime,
An afternoon's chase,
Would mean nothing to me,
If you were not there.

Endless love and joy are mine,
The tears from your eyes are mine,
You washed them clear from my face,
I now know love.
I never knew your peace,
I never knew sweet release,
But you came to me softly,
You comforted me.

Endless words on the page,
Showing comfort and grace,
Giving calm to the rage,
Dries the tears from your face,
You paid my death-wage,
My heart is your place.
Live in me, O God,
Show me the way.
