Place in the Heart

Not one of my best, to say the least, but the effects of the 1997 flood were beginning to wear off, and I was beginning to settle back into that cynical mold I seem to have made for myself. This poem is written asmuch to myself as to the unsaved person we pass on the street.

Place In The Heart

It's a simple thing that we all know,
The place in the heart that cannot let go.
The place in the heart that remembers pain,
And brings it to light again and again.
A place in the heart that fills us with fire,
A fire that is fueled by our own selfish ire.
A fire that rends and tears at our soul,
Leaving our defensless, ragged heart unwhole.
That place in the heart that needs to be healed,
That place in our heart that needs to be filled,
For that place itself is empty, unwhole,
And so takes on its villainous role.
Can it be filled, and if so, then by whom?
If you know of him, then give him some room.
