To Her (#2)

The second question I typically am asked about this set of poems is about my seemingly negative look at love. To be perfectly honest, I am not the cynic that my poetry sometimes portrays me to be. In fact, I would rather like to think of myself as a hopeless romantic. However, the part of me that pains at every heartache must have a voice as well, and this is that voice.

To Her (#2)
It begins to cloud my mind,
The silence, the loneliness,
All I can see is you,
Yet you do not see me.
You still do not know me.
Yet why should you know me?
Would you run like the rest?
Would your ears be closed to my pain?
The past is dead, yet in me it still lives,
For I have no one to take its weight off my back.

Are you the one who will listen?
Will you judge me for my past?
Or will you see the real me,
The one who needs love and forgiveness?
I am not a monster,
Yet I feel that I am,
For all that I know still run.
Will you run?
Will you flee?
Or will you see the true me?

Something about you is different,
You don't look on others with spite.
You trust, and are trusted,
You love, and are loved.
Could you ever love me?
Or will I have to remain in my solitude?
I need a hand to hold me up,
Or I feel I might fall.
May I hold your hand?
