You and I

This was the second poem I ever wrote. I really liked, and eventually turned it into a song. However, there is no direct relation between it and my life. This is another one of those poems which just 'struck' me for no apparent reason.

You and I

ThereÕs a world of difference between you and I,
WeÕll always be together
Or at least weÕll try
And IÕll just laugh
And youÕll just cry
While flowers fade
And our dreams die

You keep on hoping
That IÕll understand
YouÕre telling me
About some ÒPromised LandÓ
If I laugh at you
YouÕll take your stand
If I listen to you
YouÕll hold out your hand

In this mixed-up world
It seems to be
That the crazy people
Like you and me
They laugh and scorn
They never see
The bonded ties
Between you and me

A thousand hopes
And a thousand lies
A thousand tears
In a thousand eyes
A thousand prayers
Lifted to the skies
A thousand fears
And a thousand sighs

Now it finally comes
I can understand
Now I can see
Your ÒPromised LandÓ
I laughed at you
You took your stand
Then I heard your words
And you held out your hand

Then you pulled me in
And you prayed IÕd stay
You held me close
IÕll never go away
So God in heaven
I want to say
Thank you for loving me
Forever and this day
