DESCRIPTIONS OF 62 RELIGIONS, FAITH GROUPS & ETHICAL SYSTEMS

Note * This information was obtained from a homepage on the net of unknown origins .

We categorize groups according to how they themselves regard their beliefs. Some are listed in more than one section, because their memberships are divided on whether they should be considered Christian or not.

Information for these essays was extracted from reliable sources, and believed to be accurate and reasonably unbiased. Where possible, they have been reviewed by a (typically 3) persons who follows the belief.

Please note:
The very best way to begin to understand a different religion is to make personal contact with one of its followers or one of its local religious groups. Imagine the effect on religious tolerance in North America if every adult made contact each year with a church, circle, mosque, synagogue or temple of another faith and asked to visit in order to learn more about the faith of their neighbour!

"World" Religions:

There are 11 long established major religions, each with over 3 million followers:

Small Non-Christian Religions:

These are smaller religions, with a well defined belief in deity, humanity and the rest of the universe. Of the many hundreds of faith groups in the world, we have chosen these because of their historical significance, or because of the massive amount of misinformation that has been spread about them by other religious groups in North America:

Destructive, Doomsday Faith Groups:

These groups, often called "destructive cults" have suffered loss of life, usually among their own membership. All are/were Christian or followed syncretistic religions that combined elements of Christianity with other faiths (Buddhism, New Age, UFO believing groups) None were any less a religion even if their views were different than mainstream religions.

Christian Denominations and Sects:

There are many definitions of the term "Christian Church". Some are much more restrictive than others; some define faith groups different from their own to be cults, or even mind control or doomsday cults. We use a very simple, inclusive description, defining a Christian Church as any organization that regards itself as Christian.

About 85% of the people in the United States and Canada follow a Christian faith and belong to one of about 1500 individual Christian denominations, sects and cults. We have selected the following mainly because:

This was included to give you a better perspective of religions in general !

( The Interi Shinto Sect does not disrespect any of the religions listed here. Each have their own beliefs and are worthy of respect by all !)
