Bible Study #2
Studies compiled by Rev. C. David Coyle (B.A., Th.B., M.Min.).
< >Dear student, Thank you for your interest in studying the Bible, The Word of God. My
hope is that these introductory lessons in Basic Bible Doctrines will whet your spiritual
appetite for God’s Word and help to build and strengthen your daily walk with the Lord. Just download notes and make a notebook of them for your personal use and growth.
< >To really know someone you must have not only heard of that person, but have been
introduced to them. Then, in spending time with that individual you grow closer and
closer and a relationship is formed. That is not only true in our daily relationships with
other people, but also it is true with our relationship with God. These studies are intended
to help to introduce you to Jesus Christ and help to form that relationship of trust in Him.
I. God reveals Himself in many ways:
A. In Romans 1: 18, God reveals Himself “from the ________________ _______
___________________”.
B. God revealed Himself by a personal message to others. These people wrote the
words which are our Bible. How and to whom did God reveal Himself in
Hebrews 1: 1?

_______________________________________________
_______________________________________________
C. See how many ways Jesus reveals His Father from John 14: 6-11.
____________, _________________________,
____________, ________________________________.
II. How did Jesus reveal His love for you in John 3: 16? _________________
Who does Jesus seek to save in verse 17? NOTE: The word “world” does not mean
the planet or the globe, the earth, but is personal as relating to the people of the
world. In other words, YOU. Put your own name in verses 16-18 in place of the
word “world” and see how God loves you, personally.
III. God demanded a “payment” for mankind’s souls from the grip of sin and hell upon
them. The “payment” for sin is eternal death as a penalty for our sin, our rejection of
His will and His purpose for our lives. Who are they who are guilty of sin in Romans
3: 10-12? ____________ What does this mean about you and me, according to
what Paul tells us in Romans 3: 23? ____________________________________
_______________________________________________________________
_______________________________________________________________
A. Because we are all guilty of sin in our lives and in our hearts, what is our
payment or “wage” (paycheck) for our sin? __________________________
B. Now, looking at Romans 5: 6, what did Jesus Christ do for us? When did He do
it? __________________________________________________________
Notice, it wasn’t when we changed, started going to church, cleaned up our lives
that He took this action, but while we were dirty in sin and separated from God.
If we try to, our best attempt at cleaning ourselves up is “filthy rags” in the sight of
a perfect, holy, righteous God. Our good works and our attempts to become
acceptable to God won’t work. We cannot earn salvation. It is a free gift, free
for the accepting.
C. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the
gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast” (Ephesians 2: 8-9).
What is in action on God’s part so our “faith” can act favorably toward Him?
____________________________________
What other attribute of God is seen equally in our salvation in Titus 3: 5?
____________________________________
D. In Ephesians 2: 8 (above), I am saved “by grace” through what? _________
What does my “faith” do for me eternally by my “believing” or trusting in the
Person of the Lord Jesus Chirst in John 3: 16? _______________________
By trusting Christ, I “accept” His authority over my life and recognize Him as
both my Savior and my Lord. Go to John 1: 11-13. In accepting this truth I
“receive” Christ and His sacrifice to give me eternal life. How am I related to
God by believing in Christ and receiving Him as my Savior? ______________
___________________________________________________________
E. How does this all take place according to Romans 10: 9-11? _____________
< >Since prayer is the key to the whole issue of eternal life,
wouldn’t you like to talk to God in prayer and turn your life over to Him now? You can. The words are not the most important factor, your heart attitude is. If you recognize the fact of your sin and your helplessness to change it and ask Him to forgive and save you, He will. In your own words, ask God to save you from your sin, as well as the penalty of it and thank Him for Jesus’s sacrifice on your behalf. If you asked for that and you really meant it from your heart, you are saved. I urge you to pray that prayer, from your heart, He’s waiting to hear from you, as He stands by the door of your heart (Revelation 3: 20).
