Juniata College

I did my undergraduate work in Russian and English at Juniata College, a small private college in Huntingdon, Pennsylvania, about 35 miles south of a much larger and well-known university, Penn State. Despite its small size (about 1200 students), Juniata has high academic standards, a unique "build-your-own" Program of Emphasis, faculty dedicated to teaching, and a rich history of traditions. Founded in 1876, the oldest and most unique building on campus is The Cloister, pictured in here in mid-February. Now a dormitory with twisting hallways. walk-in closets, and a few rooms with fireplaces, is the focus of one tradition, the Storming of the Arch. Other events special to Juniata are Mountain Day (a day in fall semester when classes are unexpectedly cancelled for a picnic), the Madrigal dinner and dance, and the Presidential Ball.
