Session Start: Sat Jan 11 1997
<_Cassiopia_> Welcome to
my class on incorperating
symbolism into magick.
<_Cassiopia_> If you have a question for me, please type an @ ONLY and I will call
on you when I have a chance. Thank you.
<_Cassiopia_> There are MANY ways that one can incorperate symbolism into
your magickal workings...
<_Cassiopia_> Planetary hour and day of the week are both very interesting ways
to add symbolism.
<_Cassiopia_> They are, however, VERY complex. I cannot explain them fully here...
<_Cassiopia_> If you wish information on them, there are some very good books...
<_Cassiopia_> One is the Llewellen's 1997 Almanac, which as charts and a good
explanation. I reccommend it highly.
<_Cassiopia_> Day of the week is also a very good way to add symbolism and
more energy to your spell.
<_Cassiopia_> For example, doing spells to do with love on Friday, the day of
Venus, can help intensify their effect.
<_Cassiopia_> Other days are different planets. I refer you again to Llewellen's
Alminac for a more thourough explanation.
<_Cassiopia_> When casting a circle for your magickal workings, symbolism can
play a large part in your decisions.
<_Cassiopia_> The type of circle cast is of vital importance. Visualizations for
circles set the tone for the workings.
<_Cassiopia_> When casting a circle for healing, a blue or green circle
visualization, with whatever symbols you would like to aid your purpose are
important.
<_Cassiopia_> When casting one to break a negative influence, you want a dark
circle, perhaps with dangerous visualizations like walls of blades or spears in a
circle may help you to draw more defensive energy.
<_Cassiopia_> When calling/casting/summoning/stirring up your quarters you
have another choice to make.
<_Cassiopia_> There are many choices as to type of quarters to use. Angels,
elements, elementals, creatures, spirits, there are lots of ways that they can be
called.
<_Cassiopia_> This all depends on what you plan on doing, and what kind of
energy you wish to use.
<_Cassiopia_> This the idea behind all the symbolism, the idea of energy. You are
adding your energy whenever you do magick, and you want to make sure all the
energy you send out is the kind you want to be involved.
<_Cassiopia_> When casting your circle, calling the quarters is also dependant on
what you plan to do.
<_Cassiopia_> You may ask only the spirit of the north to come to your aid when
you are doing magick to honor a dead loved one (north being the direction of
death, in my tradition) and simply invite the others to come in and witness.
<_Cassiopia_> Or, if you are doing major works of magick, you may WANT to
have all their energy helping you.
<_Cassiopia_> When you are choosing your supplies, you have the chance to add
more symbolism there, too.
<_Cassiopia_> The colors of your candles start it off...
<_Cassiopia_> Illuminators, altar candles, all can be symbolic.
<_Cassiopia_> Red for a love spell, green for money, yellow for energy... all can be
used.
<_Cassiopia_> White can be used too, if you don't want any symbolism, or if you
wish to use just pure energy in your work.
<_Cassiopia_> The shapes of your candles can be used.
<_Cassiopia_> I have used a black, cat shaped candle for evading and absorbing
negative energies.
<_Cassiopia_> You can use moon shapes to invok the energies or attributes of the
moon, or a sun shaped one for the sun.
<_Cassiopia_> Any shapes you use are ONLY symbolic if you want them to be...
tapers are only phallic symbols if you want them to be.
<_Cassiopia_> Your insense is also important. What fragrance you choose sets the
tone for your workings.
<_Cassiopia_> Using a vanilla for healing, rose for love or patchoulli for money
can help amplify your power and focus it for your purposes.
<_Cassiopia_> The oils you use to annoint yourself are also important.
Ylang-ylang for romance or jasmin for clarity of thought can help you focus.
<_Cassiopia_> An extra bonus to oils is if you use them for a continuing spell, one
that will be out with you in the world, wearing a touch of that oil or having a
dish of potpourri in that scent on your desk or next to your bed can help you
remember the spell daily, and can help reenforce it.
<_Cassiopia_> Your altar is also important to your energy. The things you place
on it, and the place that you put it, are important to your magickal workings.
<_Cassiopia_> Placing the altar in the center of the circle is traditional for me. But
NOT placing it in the center adds symbolism. Breaking from, or following
tradition, need to be a concious decision, not just chance.
<_Cassiopia_> The things on your altar are also important. What you include, and
do NOT include, make the energies different.
<_Cassiopia_> Goddess and God images are important. Including/excluding one of
them can altar the types of energies you draw.
<_Cassiopia_> If you are doing a strictly masculine spell, use only your God image
to make the energies more masculine. Similarly, exclude the God image if you
wish to make the energies more feminine.
<_Cassiopia_> Now that you have gotten your circle all set up, it's time for you to
start with your workings.
<_Cassiopia_> Using semi-precious or precious stones is important for me. I use
them frequently, and to great effect. The type and shape and condition of the
stone affects your works.
<_Cassiopia_> Terminated stones are very good examples of the shape of a stone
being important.
<_Cassiopia_> A single terminated quartz crystal is useful for projecting energy
and for focusing it.
<_Cassiopia_> A double terminated one is good for recieving energy, and for a
passage both way of energy between two things.
<_Cassiopia_> This symbolism is VERY important at times, if you use it.
[22:50] @
<_Cassiopia_> The type of stone you use is also important.
<_Cassiopia_> Yes, Vlad.
[22:51] what do you mean by terminated?
<_Cassiopia_> Terminated means coming to a point.
<_Cassiopia_> Naturally, that is.
[22:52] that's what i thought but i wasn't familiar with the term
<_Cassiopia_> Quartz crystals are most commonly single terminated.
<_Cassiopia_> Yes, it's a geologic term.
<_Cassiopia_> The type of stone you use is important.
<_Cassiopia_> Different stones have different properties.
<_Cassiopia_> Rose quartz is good for love, garnet for strength, bloodstone for
healing, quartz for amplification.
<_Cassiopia_> There are literally hundreds of types of stones and their uses are
many and varied.
<_Cassiopia_> A good reference for this is Scott Cunningham's "Encyclopediaof
Crystal, Gem and Metal Magic"
<_Cassiopia_> It is commonly available, and one of the best references I've found.
It has some illustrations.
<_Cassiopia_> The shape of the stones is also important.
<_Cassiopia_> Phallic symbolism, heart shaped ones for love, cup shaped geodes
for feminine energies, all of these can be used and are commonly found.
<_Cassiopia_> The clothes you use in your circle and out can be important.
<_Cassiopia_> Natural fibres should always be worn in your circle, but the fabric
can be symbolic.
<_Cassiopia_> Furs are to help get in touch with the spirit/power of that animal.
[22:58] @
<_Cassiopia_> Furs are not something I use, but their use, if judicious, can be
most helpful.
<_Cassiopia_> yes, guyver3.
[22:59] i have a pet ferret, would there be any kind of important
symbloism in haveing him there with me
[22:59] ?
<_Cassiopia_> If you would like to use his energies, or traits, this could be
important.
[22:59] or could there be?
[22:59] ok
<_Cassiopia_> I include my cats occasionally, if I want to include their evasive or
stalking energies.
<_Cassiopia_> The colors you wear are also important.
<_Cassiopia_> In circle or out, if you are feeling down, wear a bit of red to perk
you up.
[23:01] :)
<_Cassiopia_> Wear grey if you feel like you are being pursued and want to hide.
[23:02] Hmm. I usually wear black most of the time.
<_Cassiopia_> The colors are important in your clothes if you would like them to
be.
[23:02] Both actually.
<_Cassiopia_> The style doesn't matter, if you don't want it to. But wearing a
'poet's shirt' if you need creative energy or a deerstalker cap if you're hunting
deer wouldn't hurt.
<_Cassiopia_> I'm going to pause until everyone returns.
[23:04] Cass yes the colors I wear are very important to me.
<_Cassiopia_> This is a good time to go potty and get a coke!
[23:05] How ya doing cass?
[23:05] coke?
<_Cassiopia_> Good!
[23:05] Well u go girl!!!
<_Cassiopia_> hehehehe.... Good morning, Vlad!
[23:05] HEHE
<_Cassiopia_> How are y'all doing? Am I being clear?
[23:05] always did sleep in class
<_Cassiopia_> Don't be afraid to speak up...
[23:05] yep
<_Cassiopia_> Vlad, I dunno if I should giggle or slap you... ;-)
<_Cassiopia_> Looks like they're coming back...
[23:06] yeah... i'm also logging this...
[23:06] Cass. Love your very clear.
[23:06] both?
<_Cassiopia_> I think that's about it... Magus quit due to ping timeout...
* _Cassiopia_ slaps VladTaltos around a bit with a genuine "The Craft"
BOS...guaranteed information from the REAL witches!
* _Cassiopia_ give extra huge hugs to VladTaltos {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{ VladTaltos
}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}
<_Cassiopia_> There...
<_Cassiopia_> BOTH!
<_Cassiopia_> ;-)
<_Cassiopia_> OK... those that left on the split... we took a break so you wouldn't
miss anything.
<_Cassiopia_> The style doesn't matter, if you don't want it to. But wearing a
'poet's shirt' if you need creative energy or a deerstalker cap if you're hunting
deer wouldn't hurt.
[23:08] * VladTaltos throws a jhereg-eaten dead teckla at _Cassiopia_
<_Cassiopia_> Jewlery is, for me, a vital part of my wardrobe...
[23:08] i also always used to throw things at the teacher.. sorry...
ahem. go on; everyone's back :)
<_Cassiopia_> Thanks, I think, Vlad...
<_Cassiopia_> ;-)
<_Cassiopia_> The type and amount of jewlery you wear is symbolic.
[23:09] Same here.
<_Cassiopia_> I wear little jewlery for everyday. One silver necklace with a small
pendant, one ring that has a tiger-eye in it, and a pair of earrings, that I change
frequently.
<_Cassiopia_> Holding for split.
[23:11] :)
[23:11] ack
<_Cassiopia_> I hate it when that happens!
[23:11] There they go again!!
<_Cassiopia_> Yup...
<_Cassiopia_> and here WE go again!
[23:11] Watch out 4 tiger eye though.
<_Cassiopia_> IT is one of my power stones... I know it well...
[23:12] Yes love again.
[23:12] If u believe in luck don't wear a tigers eye.
<_Cassiopia_> Welcome back, again.
<_Cassiopia_> I MAKE my own luck.
<_Cassiopia_> ;-)
[23:13] *@#$#%^!!!
<_Cassiopia_> It's phoenix, again.
[23:13] boy i'm glad i have that auto-voice set
<_Cassiopia_> Phoenix must be arguing with the other nets...
<_Cassiopia_> I can imagine, Vlad!
[23:13] Will u guys quit that!!!
<_Cassiopia_> PHOENIX! It can't stay in one place for long...
[23:14] #%$%$^%$^$#@!!!!!!!!!
[23:15] it does keep rising from the ashes though...
<_Cassiopia_> OK, when they come back, they're gonna switch servers...
<_Cassiopia_> Ba-dum-bum, Vlad.
[23:15] damnit!!!!!!!!
<_Cassiopia_> All those on Phoenix, can y'all try another server?
[23:15] i recommend Spider
<_Cassiopia_> Phoenix seems prone to splits tonight.
[23:15] (Santa Clara)
<_Cassiopia_> OPUS.dal.net
<_Cassiopia_> or firehouse.dal.net
<_Cassiopia_> They are both close and good....
<_Cassiopia_> We will wait on you...
[23:17] ok are we good to go again?
<_Cassiopia_> I guess... one more split and those on phoenix may want to change,
but it looks like it's settled down...
<_Cassiopia_> Oi!
<_Cassiopia_> ANother one!
<_Cassiopia_> I will wait...
[23:19] sigh
[23:20] Greetings
<_Cassiopia_> Waiting on Laura
[23:20] waaahahhh... we're all on different servers...
<_Cassiopia_> OK..
<_Cassiopia_> Starting again on jewlery...
<_Cassiopia_> WB, benji!
<_Cassiopia_> OK, jewlery.
[23:21] doh!
<_Cassiopia_> Wearing jewlery in circle is the most important thing to consider.
[23:22] :)
<_Cassiopia_> The type of metal, type of stone, and placement is very important.
<_Cassiopia_> Metals are easiest to start with.
<_Cassiopia_> Gold is a projective metal.
<_Cassiopia_> Silver is receptive.
<_Cassiopia_> Bronze reflects, iron and steel are for strength, etc.
<_Cassiopia_> All this is in the Cunningham book I referred to earlier.
<_Cassiopia_> The place you put the metal is most important for rings.
<_Cassiopia_> Right hand (for most) is projective, left is receptive.
<_Cassiopia_> This changes if you are left-handed.
<_Cassiopia_> It reverses...
[23:26] @
<_Cassiopia_> Yes, benji.
[23:27] gold is projective or protective???
[23:27] Hello everyone!
<_Cassiopia_> Projective.
<_Cassiopia_> Welcome...
[23:27] ok
<_Cassiopia_> Pause...
[23:28] sigh
[23:28] Hi! {Laura}
<_Cassiopia_> Qborg...
<_Cassiopia_> We have a class going on...
<_Cassiopia_> unless you have a question, which you signal with a @, it is very
rude to speak when class is going...
<_Cassiopia_> ToPY was having server problems, he will return
<_Cassiopia_> I'll wait for him...
<_Cassiopia_> If anyone has a similar problem, and wants me to wait, /msg me
and let me know before you leave so I can wait for you...
[23:31] hello?
<_Cassiopia_> I'm waiting for the server problems to fix themselves, at least for
a sec...
<_Cassiopia_> So sorry about the chopiness of the class right now... server
problems bigtime...
* _Cassiopia_ may cry soon...
<_Cassiopia_> oi!
[23:36] * VladTaltos puts his arms around Cass... awwww... don't cry :)
[23:36] * benji_ rubs Cassiopias shoulders and says its ok.....
[23:36] It's ok cass... I'm here.
<_Cassiopia_> Oh, gosh... I hate those stupid splits!
[23:36] *** GrandDruid has quit IRC (toronto.on.ca.dal.net phoenix.tx.us.DAL.net)
-> [ToPY] PING
<_Cassiopia_> Granddruid seems to be having MAJOR problems...
* _Cassiopia_ grabs a rope and ties everyone together!
<_Cassiopia_> There...
<_Cassiopia_> Now... back to jewlery!
[23:37] * ToPY lets out a yelp.
<_Cassiopia_> The stones you use are also important to your symbolism.
<_Cassiopia_> AH!
<_Cassiopia_> AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!
[23:38] * VladTaltos starts to cry instead of Cass
[23:38] why are we at wicca/magick-mod and not wicca/magick-class ???
(dumb question but curious)
<_Cassiopia_> I am going to continue without those two... and I will DCC them the
log of what they miss when they come back...
[23:39] * ToPY just can't understand it all. the universe of IRC is confusing.
<_Cassiopia_> This is #Wicca/magick's classroom... I use it... ;-)
<_Cassiopia_> And the only dumb question is the unasked one!
<_Cassiopia_> unasked one...
<_Cassiopia_> OK... to continue...
[23:41] lol
<_Cassiopia_> I'll DCC then the log...
<_Cassiopia_> We're moving on.
[23:41] :)
<_Cassiopia_> Should I wait?
<_Cassiopia_> I'm going to wait... for 2 mins...
<_Cassiopia_> NO MORE!
[23:42] i'm for the DCC option....
[23:42] yea, or put it up on your web page.
[23:42] I would like a log of tonight if possible :)
<_Cassiopia_> I will... I'll just DCC them...
<_Cassiopia_> And I am logging... I will have it available in a day or two, edited...
<_Cassiopia_> All the garbage will be removed (enterings, exitings, pauses, etc.)
[23:43] ok... Lets get back to the class.
<_Cassiopia_> Ok.
[23:43] (spitballs...)
<_Cassiopia_> The stones that you use have the same symbolism as the stones
you have in your cirlce and use for your workings. They are just more portable,
and usually prettier...
[23:44] symbolism of spitballs VladTaltos?
<_Cassiopia_> None... he's being a goof!
<_Cassiopia_> ;-)
<_Cassiopia_> Ok... one more thing and then I open it to questions.
[23:46] I'm going to change servers
[23:46] I'll be back
<_Cassiopia_> Symbolism is a POWERFUL tool for magick. It can help make or
break a spell. But it is not always important. If you only have orange candles,
and want to do a healing, or only have clear quartz and you need money, go
ahead and use what you have. Don't feel tied to the information I've given you
here, or that you read in ANY book. You are the final authority on the validity
and importance of what you do and use. If it doesn't feel right, trust your
instincts. If it does feel right to use something other than what you have been
told is correct, try it. YOU have better sense than you may think.
<_Cassiopia_> Trust your gut reactions, and you won't go wrong often.
[23:50] *** _Cassiopia_ changes topic to "Incorperating symoblism into magick!
Welcome! Taking questions now..."
<_Cassiopia_> Anyone?
[23:50] @
<_Cassiopia_> Yes, benji?
* _Cassiopia_ is about ready to commit netacide and kill DALnet!
[23:53] too bad we can't make our own server.
[23:53] netacide
<_Cassiopia_> OK, welcome back. Go ahead, benji.
[23:54] @
<_Cassiopia_> ToPY, you're next.
[23:55] ahghahahaha
[23:56] * benji_ is about ready to scream NOW!
[23:56] if i want to burn a candle at home while gone what is the best
thing to do??
<_Cassiopia_> What's wrong, benji?
[23:57] if i want to keep a candle burning at home while gone what is the
best thing to do
<_Cassiopia_> Get a votive, set it in a LARGE dish of kitty litter, and close the door
so that no animals will disturb it, if you have any.
<_Cassiopia_> ToPY?
<_Cassiopia_> (Sorry about the rush, but I need to go in a sec...)
[23:57] i've got a question about the leftovers of candlewax... do you
have to get it ALL out of the holder?
[23:57] there are just times i feel I should keep one lit, but yet must live
my life...(work)
<_Cassiopia_> Yeah, I understand benji!
<_Cassiopia_> If you can, ToPY...
[23:58] also, can you use a lighter, as long as it is used only for the spell?
<_Cassiopia_> Try running the holder under boiling water or reheating it a bit
with a lightwer to get the rest off...
<_Cassiopia_> Yes, lighters are fine...
<_Cassiopia_> I use matches, but I'm just lighter impared.
<_Cassiopia_> Well, if there are no other questions... I need to be shuffling off to
bed...
[0:00] it's only 12!
[0:00] merry part.
<_Cassiopia_> I know... but I also have a little sister staring over my shoulder!
<_Cassiopia_> Merry Part!
[0:01] *** _Cassiopia_ changes topic to "Incorperating symoblism into magick!
Welcome! For a log, e-mail goddesmoon@aol.com"
[0:01] thank you, Cass
<_Cassiopia_> No problem!
