Caramat District School

Discipline

Students are expected to display proper behavior at all times. Positive reinforcements such as monthly draws, special activities etc. are stressed. Accepting responsibility for their actions, whether positive or negative consequences ensue, is a major component of our discipline policy.

Each Staff member is required to develop a discipline plan for their classroom, teach the plan to their students and share the plan with the parents. Ongoing teaching of what is acceptable behavior, and reasons supporting this behavior is expected of each staff member. As well, students must know what they did that was unacceptable, and why it is unacceptable. Consistency by all staff is a requirement to ensure students know they are being treated fairly.

Generally, our students are well behaved. To comply with M.O.E.T. policy, we have adapted an "Anti-Violence Policy". To deal with what might be referred to as "normal student behavioural incidents", we also use a discipline plan school-wide for non-violent incidents. Parents were consulted for both plans, and students were in-serviced, and both plans are reviewed yearly.

We believe students deserve the best learning enviroment possible. We further believe all students can behave appropriately at school. We have high expectations of our students, and are quite proud and comfortable with their behavior. Close communication with parents assists a great deal.
