Extra
Curricular Activities
Being a very small school with only 17
students and situated many kilometers from another community (60 km
to the nearest town and 320 km to the nearest city) presents a
tremendous challenge in providing extra curricular activities. The
staff believes our students need these activities to foster good
school spirit, and to expose isolated students to "a world beyond".
Financing the activities is becoming our biggest challenge. The list
is getting shorter each year, unfortunately. Currently, a group of
adults is organizing fund raising activities to ensure our students
are involved in as many activities as possible. With a small Staff
number, and the tremendous workload, adult volunteers are needed to
provide some of the activities.
Activities for 2000/01
Should all go as planned, we will be taking our whole school
to Thunder Bay during the winter for a two day excursion that will
include downhill skiing, bowling and shopping malls. Attendance at
the Nakina Floor Hockey Tournament and possibly involvement in the
Legion's Cross Country Run in Thunder Bay will be
attempted.
What We Try To
Provide:
1. Special Dinners - such as a
school Thanksgiving Dinner.
2. Curling - even without our own
rink, we drive 120 km to practice.
. .............- yearly "Funspiel" with
Nakina (250 km).
3. Downhill Skiing - from grade
5-8 in Thunder Bay (640 km).
4. Floor Hockey - annual regional
tournament in Nakina (250 km).
5. Primary/Junior Trip - once a
year outing to Thunder Bay (640 km) to visit a circus, carnival or
city cites.
6. Computers - access available to
students and community.
- Includes access to
Internet.
