Caramat District School

Projects

We try to involve our students in a variety of projects that enable them to foster self-learning and self-growth. Various topics are assigned and completed individually, or with a partner. Students are taught how to do a project, the location of resources and a variety of presentation modes. Self evaluation is strongly stressed.

We are constantly looking for projects to get involved with via the Net. Pen pals via the Net was a success last year, and we would like to link up to more pals this year. If anyone has an idea, let us hear about it.

Scissor Line

Special Topic for 2000/01:

The students in Grades 5 to 8 will be contacting five or more schools in various countries to find three common birds living near the school. We will be preparing a special web page with data such as a picture, habitat, food, characteristics, etc. Use of the data will occur in Math for ratios, percents, fractions, graphing, etc. Please send us your local bird information for our project.

Annual Topics:

1. Native Studies- historical studies to current issues.

- legends, customs, foods, lodging etc.

2. Comparisons - using a framework to develop valid criteria to comprehend similarities and differences.

- various topics covered (shoes, music, snowmobiles etc.).

3. Decisions - using a framework and a rating scale to determine the best alternative.

- various topics covered (smoking, drugs, sports teams etc.).

Special Items:

1. Responding to Local Issues - such as modifications to local recreation complex, responding to local Forest Management Plan.

2. T.I.P.P.'s - current project to improve usage of computers and the Internet in the Primary Division.

We are always seeking projects we may involved with. Usage of the Net for projects is our prime objective. If anyone has a project they would like our school to participate in, please contact us.

Tell us what you think of our Projects Page. We would love to hear your questions and comments.
