Caramat District School

Philosophy

Aims and Objectives:

1. A primary goal of our school is to provide an ideal climate in which our children, during their formative years, regardless of race, ethnic background, religion, or geographic location, can learn to understand, appreciate and value both the similarities and differences in people.

2. To develop his/her ability to employ listening, speaking, reading and writing in the solution of problems confronting him/her as an individual and as a member of a group.

3. To open doors to the many facets of history, geography and literature so that the child's life is enriched, and to develop an appreciation of our Canadian heritage.

4. To develop neatness, consiseness and accuracy in the child's thinking and doing.

5. To develop program involvement in outdoor education that, through exposure, will come interpretations, understanding and appreciation of how man and all life fits into the whole ecological pattern.

6. To develop the basic skills required in the learning of a second language.

7. To develop the ability to distinguish fact from opinion, to detect bias, to formulate an hypotheses, to evaluate and interpret evidence, to draw conclusions based on the evidence, to synthesize, to speculate and to make judgements.

8. To emphasize that rights are earned privileges of citizenship, and to help realize that these rights may be lost by failing to keep simple rules oneself.

9. To teach self-evaluation and develop confidence in the student's own ideas in order to cultivate useful work habits, study skills and to inculate positive social attitudes.

10. To open up the learning world by being involved in selecting, evaluating and providing learning materials in a variety of format that will assist the learner.

11. To encourage each child to assess his/her own skills, to work to his/her maximum and to strive for improvement.

Conclusion: We strongly believe that the school, parents and community must work together harmoniously to provide a learning enviroment that enables each child to develop to his/her maximum potential.
