July Jubilee Celebration
"POWER OF DREAMS"
 Distinguished District Status Achieved
by Glenn Pike, DTM
Toastmasters throughout District 3 gathered Saturday evening, July 31, at the San Carlos Hotel in Milano's Restaurant, downtown Phoenix to celebrate their 1998-1999 achievements.
The annual meeting coincided with the release by Toastmasters International of its year-end-figures which proved that District 3 had achieved International's "Distinguished District" status for the second consecutive year.
The program included a keynote address by humorist speaker Kathy Wilson, ATM-S (past member of Speakers in Paradise) with George Self, ATM, (Sierra Vista) as Toastmaster, a roast of the outgoing District Governor, Jodie Kay Petra, DTM, (Western Sages), and a multi-media presentation highlighting the past year's toastmasters and activities by District Historian Glenn Pike, DTM (Valley)
In her keynote, Kathy talked about dreams and realities. Everyone had a good laugh as she recalled one of her dreams -- to talk to a large group of people in her bathrobe and slippers -- which she did at a District Speech Contest many years ago.
Magician Brad Zinn (Entertainment Enterprises) found several Toastmasters came to the dinner with real silver dollars, stashed in the most unlikely of places. He was fun and well prepared to do what he does best . . . "entertain."
In addition to a presentation of leadership awards (recognition for service as Division and Area Governors, and Committee Chairs), six major or awards were announced.

Jodie Kay Petra bid farewell and  followed up her farewell with a District Governor's Report, in which she recounted her dream to achieve "Distinguished District" and how close it was, to the last day---emphasizing the importance of not letting dreams die.
Keynote speaker Kathy Wilson was asked to briefly summarize her talk.
 Her response included these thoughts:
"What a good time it was celebrating Jodie's dream at the July Jubilee! I was flattered to be asked to give the keynote address, and talked about dreams and realities. I reminisced about dreaming of a perfect wedding while Geff was planning his year as District Governor, and the reality of THAT kind of situation.  But the most important advice came from The Power of Positive Thinking -"The Way to happiness: keep your heart free from hate, your mind from worry. Live simply, expect little, give much. Fill your life with love. Scatter sunshine. Forget self, think of others. Do as you would be done by. Try this for a week and you'll be surprised." And, according to Jodie Petra -- don't forget to dream.
