Last week the club received information about District 3’s Toastmasters on TV program - with a request that the club consider being a participant in the program.

The Toastmasters on TV program has been operating under the direction of Anne Vaughn, ATM, Yavapai Division Governor and Public Relations Committee Chairperson for the Phoenix area since July, 1996.

“One day last year I was invited to appear for an interview on a Channel 22 program,” said Anne. “At about the same time, the District Public Relations Officer, Stuart Thomas,CTM began video taping club meetings for broadcast in the Tucson area. The idea grew from there and I accepted the challenge of developing a television presence for the Phoenix area as PR chairman.”

“At first we rented the necessary video equipment and filmed live club meetings at their regular meeting location at a cost of $30 to $40 dollars, plus a $100 dollar deposit. Because of the expense, we are now asking the clubs to come to the studio where we have better facilities, lighting and sound---and at less expense ($10).”

Once a club has filmed a meeting, it is then scheduled for viewing on Access TV, Channel 22 at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday evening and can be broadcast as many as four times. Channel 22 is available in the Phoenix area but, unfortunately, does not include Scottsdale, Tempe, and Mesa.

Anne, who works for the Bureau of Reclamation, is being transferred to Willows, a small town in northern California at the end of April and her leadership of the Toastmasters on TV program in Phoenix is being assumed by Robert Kuhn.

Robert is a professional television director whose credits include the Summer Olympics in Mexico. He has prepared a general information outline (including a timed program format and studio location map) which details almost every thing a club needs to know to prepare for a successful video session.

He states: It is Toastmasters on TV’s responsibility to have your program run as smoothly and professionally as possible. We do everything possible for you to have a pleasant experience. As we move into this “Video Conferencing Age”: it is important for us to make this a positive experience so we can be familiar with the TV camera as another communications tool.”

We have copies of the material and are reviewing the possibility of setting up a Valley meeting at Access TV.

Yes, that may be you we see on TV on a future Saturday night!
