  An attempt to explain the cultural aspects of this R.E.M. lyric, and a brief look at Generation X.

• To Be Alone Or Not To Be Alone

  A brief analysis of William Faulkner's Light In August, meant to find out what the book tells us about human relationships in general and isolation in particular.

• The Power of Mind Versus the Power of Appearance in Mary Shelley's Frankenstein

  An insight into some paradoxes in this classic book.

• Reading Rock Lyrics

  An attempt to defend rock lyrics as an art form, illustrated with examples taken from the repertoire of R.E.M.. 'Harborcoat' and 'World Leader Pretend,' to be more precise. This is my biggest essay to date, and is thusly broken down into three parts plus footnotes, bibliography and an appendix containing the actual texts examined:
