We have been trying to add members to our club but we aren't making much progress.  How can the District help our club grow?

Unfortunately, there isn't a silver bullet that will kill the low membership monster.  The district an provide ideas and assistance, but it's up to the club to build its membership.  It takes time.  It takes work from all the members of your club.  But, the results are worth it.

Have you talked with your Area Governor?  His/her job is to provide an interface between the district and the clubs.  They are a good source for an outside evaluation of your club.  If the Area Governor is a member of your club, s/he can ask the Division Governor to visit your club.  If there isn't time to have a good discussion with your Area Governor after your meeting, meet one on one or plan a phone call.

There are additional resources in the district.  However, they can't attend every club.  Our district has 150 clubs from Northern California to Southern Washington.  They can talk with you and give you ideas.  The Club Rebuild Chairman can talk to you about membership ideas.  The Lt. Governor of Education can talk to you about ideas for improving your program.  The Lt. Governor Marketing can give you suggestions on publicizing your club.  See the district directory for names and contact information.

There is also help available from the Toastmasters International.  There are a number of manuals and pamphlets that can help.  Some of them are available free of charge.  They can even be downloaded from their web page (http://www.toastmasters.org).  Others like the Successful Club Series can be purchased.  These not only provide help for your club, they also provide your members with a chance to make different types of presentations.
