Written Assignments

These vary with your TA. This is general information.

A Blank Calendar and the Time

Written assignments must be typed, double-spaced, and written in essay form (i.e. introduction with thesis, conclusion, with normal margins). Use a standard 12 point font (i.e. Courier, Prestige, Times New Roman) and one inch margins (a regular margin). The length should usually be at least 2 pages and no more than 3 pages. This can vary so check the specific length requirements on the specific assignment. Put your section number on your paper. Some TA's prefer that you number the question you are answering in the essay e.g. (Q 3b) so that they know which part you are addressing. PROOFREAD your paper before handing it in. Use full sentences and lose any spelling errors! Unless otherwise stated, assignments are usually due at the beginning of your lab section meeting. Five points will automatically be deducted from assignments turned in late. Once assignments have been returned the following week, late assignments will not be accepted. Every effort will be made to return your assignments one week after their due date. In the event of illness, emergency, etc. you should notify your T.A. or the instructor on or before the day of your absence. You must supply written verification of your circumstances in order to make up the work. Students are encouraged to study and learn together. This does not mean that identical written assignments can be handed in by two people. Each individual must hand in their own individual work-product. Students who hand in identical written assignments would be in violation of CLA's policy against plagiarism and are reported. TA's have different written assignments for different lab sections and check to make sure no two written assignments are identical. If you are quoting someone, put in a citation e.g. (Jolly 1995:23).
