Poetry of the Web
Welcome to the poetry of David B. Robinson.
Writing has the ability to inspire men to great deeds and may speak of
what exists or what may be. Often it may communicate, in and of itself,
so for right now we shall let it do that
in an original poem or two.
Planet of Ishtar Terra
A land of Venus to the left,
The mountains high beyond the shore
--Forbidding mountains, ranging wide;
Those mountains...Ishtar Terra's door.
In Ishtar Terra beautiful,
Exalted tales of yore will tell,--
The fern-seed grows up to the sky
Around an 'nicorn's whiskey well.
A land where treelets reach the clouds,
And where the birdies sing of fate--
A land of never-never lore,
Of sprites, of Lairds, and without hate.
So, past a griffin's nest we go
To find the spot of gentle way--
A thousand miles of bleak terrain--
Now covered without hint of stay.
But when a visitor's flight comes,
From out of cosmos here to land
On Venus' never-ending range,
It finds this place of Ishtar's sand;
Swiftly then, settling in the wilds
--Perfected, settles down to stay;
So in this Ishtar Terra land,
A ship will ever find a way.
