" Even the hungry lion prefers
to hunt with his Pride."
- Ja-kal " The Egyp-su
Kid."
.
Being the leader of the Guardians of
Prince Rapses, this motto was to be used all the time. Even though you
may think that you can handle something on your own, it's still better
to be part of a team.
.
Ja-kal was raised by his parents
in a hunting community off the coast of Elephantine, at the farthest reaches
of the Egyptian lands. It was here that he learned the ways of the hunter.
His father was a fair man, and taught his son all about the wonders of
nature, how to stalk prey, and how to fish in the waters near their home.
Ja-kal picked these skills up quickly, and by the time he reached adolescence,
was already a skilled hunter and worthy adversary.
.
Being a hunter, and depending on
the herd animals of eastern Africa, Ja-kal began to travel. Following the
current of the Nile River, Ja-kal was able to see the sights and sounds
that was this famous land. And on one of his journeys, he had the lucky
chance to meet a girl named Tia, the daughter of a well known potter. She
was like the light passing through the clouds for him, and in no time,
the pair had fallen in love and become wed.
.
It was at this time that Ja-kal
was called upon by the great Pharaoh King Amenhotep. The time had come,
and the King and Queen had been presented with a child. The Pharaoh had
learned that Ja-kal was Egypt's greatest hunter and wanted him to be the
primary personal guardian for his newborn son. And so, without hesitation,
Ja-kal and Tia said good-bye to close friends and relatives to head towards
the great city of Memphis.
.
Being the guardian of Prince Rapses
had a little getting use to. Being a hunter, Ja-kal was most use to being
on his own, being silent in a noisy world, and spending time with his beloved
wife. Now, every time the Pharaoh ordered something, he had no choice but
to obey. And the orders of the young prince were no different. As time
went on, Ja-kal noticed that Rapses was unhappy, and bored. This was from
the fact that being the son of a Pharaoh, he had very little time to spend
with his father, even when he wanted to. This is how their relationship
started.
.
Ja-kal remembered back when he
was Rapses age, and how he had the most fun hunting with his own father.
Now, teaching Rapses the same lessons gave him just as much joy, and Ja-kal
was more of a father figure to the prince than any of the other guardians.
.
When he left to fight Scarab for
the life of the prince, he had no idea the kind of danger and heartbreak
that it would cause. After his passing, the brave hunter left behind his
lovely wife Tia, and his infant son Padjet, never to return to them until
his mission has been completed and his soul can return to the western Gate.
.
.
In
the new world, Ja-kal is the one that is most likely to be left in the
crowd. Even though he is the leader, he is one that is the least adaptive
to the 20th century. Everything fascinates him, everything confuses him.
Which is why it is best to have Presley hanging around to keep him in order.
.
In this modern day world, Ja-kal
is even more of a father to the prince. In this day in age, Presley hardly
ever gets to see his father, seeing as how he lives all the way in Memphis
(Mississippi, not Egypt). And because of this, it is especially difficult
for him on occasions such as Father's day. Having Ja-kal around can be
a little annoying at times (the mini golf incident), but is a very welcomed
thing to the pretty much fatherless boy. Which is why when he is around
Ja-kal he fells the most safe. In him, he has a guardian and a father to
look up to and admire (Although most of the time, Presley won't admit it.)
.
Unfortunately, while Ja-kal is
doing a very good job as a prodigal father, he doesn't have very good people
skills. Even his fellow guardians agree, that sometimes he is too uptight
and serious. This is only because he thinks highly of his job and doesn't
want to fail his profession. To him, what you produce in your career is
a part of you, and the harder you work, a better person you become.
.
.
In this new age, Ja-kal has more
than his hunting skills to help with the fight against Scarab. His senses
are sharper than ever, and can be incredibly calm in any situation. He's
also a courageous fighter, and will sacrifice anything to see to the good
of his prince and team.
.
If you don't already know, Ja-kal's
animal sign, the falcon, gives him the ability to fly when he transforms.
Using the wings of the god Horus, he has an advantage over the other guardians
with the power of flight. By having this power, he's able to go farther
and faster without the aid of one of the mummies many vehicles, and it's
especially useful when in split second decisions.
.
Like all the mummies, Ja-kal's
battle armor appears similar to the clothes that he wore in Ancient Egypt,
with a few differences. Along with a newly advanced wardrobe, he also has
new high-tech weapons similar to those of the ancient hunter. The most
famous is his long hunting bow, which shoots firing and explosive arrows
at his enemies.
.
In the group, Ja-kal is the second
strongest physically, but doesn't have incredibly fast reflexes or great
flexibility. He relies primarily on his instincts and skills, and when
the going gets tough, the different powers that each of his fellow guardians
possess.
.
.
Although he never shows it openly,
Ja-kal wishes that he was still with his wife and son. The only possession
of theirs he has is a small cloth with his son's hand print on it, and
he feels empty every time he sees it. And when the time comes that Scarab
will be destroyed or Pharaoh Amenhotep will return to bring his son's soul
through the Western Gate, Ja-kal will welcome the chance to return with
them, through the Gate to his family, where he belongs.
