Ephraim and Susan Hughes King Page


The original photo can no longer be handled, I received it in the mail from a friend, but it was broken and I had to try to put the pieces back together. Another friend touched the photo up and sent it back to me by email. I used turn page to hide the broken ends.

Ephriam King: Union Soldier:

.....Ephraim King served as a private in A Company 4th West Virginia Regiment and in Company I of the 2nd West Virginia Infantry Regiment. The 4th and the 1st Regiments were consolidated to form the 2nd Regiment. .....In 1861, A Company served in the Kanawha Valley Campaign. The Regiment also served in Southern West Virginia in 1862. In late 1862 and early 1963, the unit was ordered to the Southern Arena where they took part in the Vicksburg Campaign. In the fall of that year, the Regiment served in the Alabama and Tennessee Area. .....In early 1864, the Regiment reenlisted and joined General Hunter in Northeastern West Virginia where they prepared for the Valley of Virginia Campaign. At Cumberland, Maryland, the 4th was consolidated with the 1st to form the 2nd West Virginia Infantry Regiment. The men of these Regiments served with great honor through all the battles and hardships of the war. The Regiment lost a total of 192 men killed in battle, died from wounds, or died from disease. I am proud of my Great Grandfather Ephraim King for his setvice.
