Women in charge too

The participation of women in the Sons of God Spiritual Baptist Church is in accordance with the sacred doctrine passed down by the great patriarchs of old.

Therefore, there can be no confusion regarding the woman’s function within the Holy Temple. St. Paul in Corinthians outlines clearly: "But I would have you know that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God."

Thus, in the Spiritual Baptist Church women are not allowed to officiate on the High Alter during worship. This is the sole duty of a male. In ancient tradition there was no ritual for feminine administration at the altar, although they were female disciples from the period of Moses through Jesus time.

However, they were never given charge over God’s altar or over men. This does not relegate the woman to a status of lesser spiritual being than the man. Jesus said of Mary "What this woman has done shall be told as a memorial unto her." This is also true for all other great women of the Bible – Miriam, Ruth, Rachel, Jephthae’s daughter and Mary, the mother of Jesus, to mention a few.

Solomon in the book of Proverbs Chapter 31 vs. 10-31 notes: "Who can find a virtuous woman for her price is far above rubies…. in the gates." The Spiritual Baptists salute women by reason of their virtue and spiritual virginity.

Because of that women are vibrant members of the Ministerial Order of the church and they function in all other areas of church work, including counseling, visiting the sick and incapacitated, conducting services and preaching with equal voices.

Women in the Church have attained the degrees of Abyss, Mothers, Mother Reverends and Deaconesses, degrees that are equal to those of men as they relate to spiritual achievements and knowledge. The Mothers carry equal or most of the children’s (congregation’s) burdens, especially during the period of mourning, Baptisms and robbing ceremonies.

More importantly, the Spiritual Baptist women are of a strong stock. She mourns and receives spiritual gifts from the Lord. Through this sacrament, alike men, she may be sent to carry messages, prophesy, heal the sick and perform several other duties.

Unlike several churches that prevent women from entering into the Ministerial Order, the Spiritual Baptists encourage them to excel by presenting the opportunities for them to do so. They provide the balance to the church, and respect the men’s higher calling.
